Thats a really good mod esp for long rides. How much did the charger kit cost you? And how reliable is it?

I got myself a juggad one.

Got a accessory adapter that comes for cars. (Generally called Cigarette lighter adapter). Connected it to battery and placed under the seat securely. Now using a car charger which I was using for my car with extended wire.

I know it might be a late reply but just came across it.. I recently installed the same one on my pulsar 220s. It costed 250 bucks on eBay with free home delivery n 12 months warranty..I installed it via ignition switch so no alteration required n can remove it whenever required..also it charges only when I put the keys in n turn it on ignition mode (without starting the engine). part 1 is taped to handle bar and I can connect rest of it as and when I have to charge..

Nice idea.But I just bought an extra battery instead.It seemed easier and much more reliable!

its easily available for Rs 150 on ebay.


Thats better but when u have someone else riding wid u or u having multiple cellfones like me,u definately need one

A cheaper alternative (for experienced people)

Things you will need
1.a lm7805 (5v linear voltage regulator)(14rs.)
2.10uf 25v capacitor.(2nos) -(optional but using them guarantees output)(4rs)
3.A suitable socket and wire for phone's power jack.
(can be salvaged from not working adapters)

total cost
20rs.(max)

Finally got this at hardip motorcycle company at GP road.. Costed me Rs.240/= got the perfect one for my htc wildfire ... earlier bought one from auto india sales company... he cheats and got tricked with a nokia charger yesterday.. thought of fitting in a nokia to htc pin.[bad luck didn't work] ,, but this new one almost solved the problem.. all set for the ride for the weekend ooty.. yay.. !!!

Hey can anyone post pics on how the electricals are connected? After you take out the cigarette lighter adapter, then what?

This will go well with the cell phone holder i have installed for long rides.

There is a better alternative for this. Install a cigarette lamp socket with cover (Indica's will be good). Connect to battery via fuse and a switch. Everything will flush fit. Like near speedo in fairing'd bikes and inside surface of side cover in case of bike's like FZ. Then you can use any cigarette lamp chargers, even a accessory socket powered polisher, vacuum cleaner, or tyre pump. You can remove and store the charger when not in use, no dangling wires then.

From what i have understood, The simplest way to get a charging port especially for Mobile phones is purchasing a car cigarette lighter socket like shown in the picture below:



Better if you buy one with a Cap cover. This is available at any of the local car accessories shops in your city. Costs around Rs. 100-400. Once you have bought it. All you need to do it connect the two cable at the terminals of your ride's battery. The + wire goes to the positive terminal and the - goes to the negative terminal of your battery.

Just by installing this socket will not drain your battery as it is not connected to any charge or anything that would use its charge.

To buy a compatible charger, with today's age and ease of internet, one can make an easy purchase at ebay or Online Shopping India - Buy Books, Mobile Phones, Digital Cameras, Laptops, Watches & Other Products @ FlipKart . Flipcart is better as it also offers cash on delivery as in they will come to your doorstep, you pay them upfront and thats about it. No troubles with paypal accounts/credit cards and stuff. And can look at various options. For new cell phones with the Micro USB charging option, one can go for this one:

Now remember When you are starting up the bike, donot keep tis charger connected to your phone or mobile devices! Once you have started it up then you may connect it to your phone for charging.

The good thing is that the cigarette lighter socket can also power any other mobile devices Like GPS, Iphone, Ipad etc. provided the compatible charger has been bought.

I will get this mod done soon on my ride and will provide installation pics. (Mind you though it will be bike specific.. FZ in my case.
