All through the monsoon, riding in the heavy downpour I used to notice all the big fat 4 wheelers turning on all 4 blinkers (parking lights) for higher visibility. It never lured me earlier but this mansoon it did, may be because my commute involved major highways & I noticed higher number of 4 wheelers.
This is an additional safety feature and IMO it should be made standard on the motorcycle as well. Nevertheless, it is a pretty simple mod and can be done in 2 simple ways. One requires 2 switch (1 default indicator switch & 1 toggle switch) operation while the other needs only single switch (toggle switch).
I went with the later method which needs only one toggle switch.
Difficulty: Easy
We need to connect 3 wires to the toggle switch, each one +ve from right & left indicator and the 3rd one is the neutral or from flasher unit. Refer the diagram. Use heat shrink tubing to insulate the bare leads of the diodes. If possible put all the wires in the bigger heat shrink tube this will ensure the factory finish.
I had an old front brake light switch cable which fitted perfectly on the toggle switch. It had a rubber cover as well which made the switch look neater.
I decided to install the switch on the left hand side, in the mirror mounting bracket. Taken the measurements accordingly & got the clamp fabricated out of a sheet metal piece from a local workshop. I have stuck carbon fiber sticker on the clamp to make it look more professionally done.
Install the clamp in position and install the switch on the clamp.
Connect the upper end of the wire to the switch. Locate the indicator socket in the cable harness. For FZ it is under the left side tank panel. Find out the left & right indicator wires (for FZ green & brown wire) and the wire from flasher (for FZ brown with white strip). As I did not want to cut any of the stock wire, I fitted the male jumper wires at the end of each wire. Insert these wires in the respective position in the socket. Turn the key, push the button & enjoy all the 4 blinkers flashing together.
