  • {Fix found} solution to Rapid Oil depletion problem in Pulsar 150 DTSi.

    Hello Bhpians,

Lately I have found the solution to the Problem related to Engine oil depletion in All Air cooled Pulsars.

the Problem being that within 200~300 Km ride my bike Pulsar 150 DTSI UG3 was gulping oil upto 250ml, every now and then I had to top-up the
engine oil to maintain minimum oil level.

I tried to find the Main reason behind the oil depletion as My bike at 65400km on ODO, has the Third Bore+piston Kit because of the same reason, every time I used to take the Bike to mechanic or BASS I was asked to replace the Bore+piston Kit which I did promptly, but still issue persisted even after bore changes, clutch/carb adjustments.

every time I replaced the Bore kit there was No white smoke from exhaust, only slight drop in pickup which was due to worn out clutch.

I tried to spot any physical leaks in the Engine but there were no leaks what so ever.

Finally A week back got the doubt that the presence of some oil in filter box is the reason behind the Rapid oil depletion, the Hot oil is being ingested by the intake vacuum in the Air filter box through the pipe connected from crank case to the air filter box.

    this is the pipe connection.

After digging internet with the problem in hand, found the solution of having a restricted orifice/valve in between crank case and filter box will reduce the oil consumption.

this is the Fixed orifice PCV valve used in cars.

As I found the solution, started searching for this valve everywhere but couldn't find it.
so I improvised and after doing some Jugaad, found a Brass gas connector Drilled a 3mm hole through it and connected the fitting by splicing the connector Hose.

    fix in my bike

After this fix, Rode for 750 Kms and voila till now no Oil drop what so ever.

Im sharing this info here because like me there are many other bikers who are afraid to go for a long ride without carrying the topup oil, this is the fix for the problem.

Have modified the valve area, now it doesn't look like a sore thumb as it used to.

      Looks neat now

This is one more method to add the orifice valve, now its concealed

Vinu, I am also facing the same issue. The engine oil is getting depleted very fast in my Pulsar 150.

Just to confirm, are you saying that the engine oil is being consumed due to the PCV valve?

Is it possible to replace the PCV valve with new one to get the problem rectified?

          Hi Vipin

The problem is there is no pcv valve in the first place, you have to get one installed to check the oil consumption. Install pcv and then keep checking oil level

Re: {Fix found} solution to Rapid Oil depletion problem in Pulsar 150 DTSi.

i have a few doubts to this solution, since i have also used Pulsar 150 extensively in the past, and faced the similar situation, changed block/piston so many times, even fought with bajaj regional service manager, wrote emails to company etc etc

at that time i had also thought about this.

but this is not the reason--

            • the oil level gets depleted by 250 ml in 200-300 kms, but do u ever find 250 ml oil in filter box, never. coz if its leaking through the breather pipe, then you should be able to find all the leaked oil there. it is not so.
            • second, the breather pipe is connected to breather vent in crankcase, which is designed in such a way so as to pass air but not oil, it is filled with some material which allows passage of air and not liquid. if you have a doubt that the part is no longer working effeciently, you can try changing it, instead of doing the desi jugaad.

and pulsars do not have PCV, it simply have a breather pipe and a breather vent.

              Hello,

As you just said that the engine overhauling is not gonna help, what is the way using which we can stop this engine oil depletion problem?

What could be the reason because of which the engine oil is getting depleted?

Ans: Yes I did find the oil in the filter box(that is how I found the reason behind oil depletion), which is only the condensed one, not all of the vapours can be condensed so rest is burnt with fresh incoming air in the engine.

Ans: You are right its suppose to only vent the gases from crank case to the filter box but In Pulsar its is Not designed to Do any thing related to seperating oil in the vented Gas from crank case, this is the first time I have taken out the pipe, found no material inside its Plain ol rubber pipe, if you find anything inside Please post the pictures, it will be helpful.

I have done My part in solving My problem, its upto other members to adapt/improvise/implement in their bikes.
also I have done enough bench marking with friend's pulsar and other 150cc bikes too, their placement of this pipe is totally different, this jugaad works only for Pulsar where the pipe placement is as mentioned above and have oil consumption complaint.

                    Hi Prince,
How did you solve your problem of oil consumption, could you also share your Solution.

And by the way, this fitting/jugaad is only a flow restrictor/orifice nothing complicated stuff here.

If you guys really doubt this fix then search for fixed orifice PCV valve in google and read for yourself[emoji106][emoji106]

As I mentioned earlier I tried to search for this so called PCV valve in all dealerships even car dealerships, at present this is the only way to go.

you could be more innovative and suggest something better which everybody could follow.

Re: {Fix found} solution to Rapid Oil depletion problem in Pulsar 150 DTSi.

I am facing oil leakage issues on my 4 year old pulsar 220f.
When i cruise more than 100 kmph, A lot of oil comes out from the breather pipe(which goes from the engine crank to fair filter box). When i checked the air filter box, The filter element ( which is foam) was dripping with oil.
Recently i went on a long drive about 1400 kms. When leaving for the ride, The oil level was exactly in the middle of max and min.
When i was returning i observed that the engine was heating up more & like a grinding noise, then i guessed it might be this oil leakage issue.
I stopped the bike there itself then parked on the center stand, Let the engine cool for 25 - 30 min while i was having a tender coconut water with a cigarette .
Then noticed that there is no oil to be seen in the reservoir at all !!
Since i'm facing this problem for quite a while, I had carried the engine oil bottle in my saddle bag for emergency situations like this!.
I filled like almost 200 to 250 ml oil to get the oil to show b/w max and min on the engine.

                              By the way, I use Motul 5100 15w50 and the bike has run for around 40000 kms, Out of which i have used a k&n pod filter (RC1060) for more than 35000 kms then changed to stock filter recently. { P.S : initial bike run in was done with stock filter for 1180 kms }
I really doubt If that K&N filter has damaged my piston rings and the cylinder block by letting dust particles inside! Which may be leading to a Blow by?
I am also noticing oil leakage from the cylinder head which may be because the cylinder head seal / gasket is gone ??

Guys, Please i Need help !! I would be grateful if someone in this forum throws light at this issue!

I really don't mind spending some money on this problem because i really love my ride & respect it.
