When i cruise more than 100 kmph, A lot of oil comes out from the breather pipe(which goes from the engine crank to fair filter box). When i checked the air filter box, The filter element ( which is foam) was dripping with oil.
Recently i went on a long drive about 1400 kms. When leaving for the ride, The oil level was exactly in the middle of max and min.
When i was returning i observed that the engine was heating up more & like a grinding noise, then i guessed it might be this oil leakage issue.
I stopped the bike there itself then parked on the center stand, Let the engine cool for 25 - 30 min while i was having a tender coconut water with a cigarette .
Then noticed that there is no oil to be seen in the reservoir at all !!
Since i'm facing this problem for quite a while, I had carried the engine oil bottle in my saddle bag for emergency situations like this!.
I filled like almost 200 to 250 ml oil to get the oil to show b/w max and min on the engine.

    By the way, I use Motul 5100 15w50 and the bike has run for around 40000 kms, Out of which i have used a k&n pod filter (RC1060) for more than 35000 kms then changed to stock filter recently. { P.S : initial bike run in was done with stock filter for 1180 kms }
I really doubt If that K&N filter has damaged my piston rings and the cylinder block by letting dust particles inside! Which may be leading to a Blow by?
I am also noticing oil leakage from the cylinder head which may be because the cylinder head seal / gasket is gone ??

Guys, Please i Need help !! I would be grateful if someone in this forum throws light at this issue!

I really don't mind spending some money on this problem because i really love my ride & respect it.

    Hi Shreyas,

I have gone through the similar situation as yours, here is my two cents worth of advice for you.

if the mileage is less than normal and have white smoke from exhaust, then it needs Bore kit replacement.

if mileage is good and has only oil consumption issue you can go for the Modd stated in this Thread earlier.

it will still need oil top up of 200~250ml after the mod but only once in every 2500km.

for the oil leaking issue from Head, ask the service center mechanic they fill fix it with applying brown colored sealant(RTV)

hope I have answered your query.

    regards,

      hello,
I am also facing the similar issue in my pulsar 150, it is driven only 34000 kms and i am facing this problem of oil depletion since it was 28000 kms driven. the mechanic suggested me to go for engine rewinding and it may cost me upto 8000rs. also the timing chain was loose since it was 18000 kms driven and there is black residue in the exhaust but no blue or white fumes. i am still getting a mileage of 45 kmpl, and engine sound is also normal. since last service, the engine oil level has gone below minimum level mark in just 800 kms. what should i do? please help...!!

regarding the oil leakage from head, I'd suggest you try a new gasket & use that sealant(silicon?) which comes in tube form with it to properly seal up the head.

          • the oil level gets depleted by 250 ml in 200-300 kms, but do u ever find 250 ml oil in filter box, never. coz if its leaking through the breather pipe, then you should be able to find all the leaked oil there. it is not so.
          • second, the breather pipe is connected to breather vent in crankcase, which is designed in such a way so as to pass air but not oil, it is filled with some material which allows passage of air and not liquid. if you have a doubt that the part is no longer working effeciently, you can try changing it, instead of doing the desi jugaad.

and pulsars do not have PCV, it simply have a breather pipe and a breather vent.

          Quoting a very old post.

          Wanted to get an info.

Do you mean the breather vent is filled with some material that does not allow the oil to go through but only the air?

Yes, basically you can call it a one way valve of sorts. Google the working of pcv valve you will get it.
