since some of the oil gets stored in the oil filter chamber, but in case of periodic maintenance (changing oil without changing oil filter) you need to add 1L and not 1.2L(1Land 200ml).

And regarding the recommended oil for FZ and Fazer is 20W50 OR going for xxW50 (where xx is < 20 ie: 15W50,10W50 etc)
But in the Old manual of Yamaha Fz-16/ Fz-s (november 2011) which i have with me,, it says, 1.1L with oil filter replecement and 1 L without oil filter replecement, & Grade is given as optional (20w-40 or 20w-50).

And as far as soaking the oil filter in engine oil is absolutely not recommended since there will be excess oil in the chamber = 1.2L+soaked oil filter(may be 50 to 100ml) which could result in excess oil pressure in the chamber. And the oil seals cannot withstand excess oil pressure for a prolong period.

But I would recommend pushing the kicker lever several times while keeping the red switch on throttle side off.

For those who don't have a kicker can unplug the spark plug cable and push the self start this could rev the engine with out turning it on

Sorry for putting two posts, since everyone hates one long post

Which translate to (you can try it on the google translate)

          Engine Oil

          Wet sump lubrication system
          SAE Type 20W50
          Recommended grade engine oil
          Engine Oil quantity
          YAMALUBE (Grade-SG)
          Periodic change 1.00 L
          Total change 1.20 L

Whether you can follow service manual or the owner's manual .its upto you bro

Regarding the owner's and the service manual any of this could be wrong ,So I would suggest following the dipstick on the oil cap to ensure the correct amount of oil.

            It is the safest.

Re: Yamaha fz16/fazer engine oil & oil filter change

One important thing while doing oil change is that the washer between the drain nut and body needs to be changed every alternate times. The washer actually gets deformed every time we tighten and is the primary reason for oil leaks.

The image is not opening, I've lost my manual. I have a Fazer V1, could you please confirm, 1.1l with oil filter & 1l without it?

                        4.remove the old oil filter

5.Clean the oil filter chamber with a clean cloth

6.place in the new oil filter

7.close the oil filter chamber. make sure the o-ring fits in the groove properly

8.put the bolt under the engine back in its place and pour in the new engine oil.

I have to change my engine oil+oil filter, would use Motul 15w50 semi synthetic. I'm not sure about the quantity, if you could clarify.

According the manual I found on ManualLib website for FZ16, periodic oil change is 1 L and total okl capacity is 1.2 L. It appears like you'll be adding 200 ml of extra engine oil on oil filter change.

Yamaha FZ 16 Manual Online: Checking The Engine Oil Level. 1. Stand the motorcycle on a level surface. TIP: • Place the motorcycle on a suitable stand. • Make sure that the motorcycle is upright 2. Start the engine, warm it up for several minutes, and then turn it off. 3. Remove...
