  • A step back to VB4

    Hi Guys,

As you would've already noticed, we've moved back to the older version of xBhp, i.e., vbulletin4. We had moved to the VB5 with lots of hopes and enthusiasm. Apparently, the happiness was short-lived as we ran into many issues, which included bugs as well as lack of features, and that included some very critical issues like unavailability of some of the older very important threads.

We could work on some of these issues, but some required intervention at the VB5 coding level which is something we didn't' want to go into. But those glitches hampered the functionality of the forum to a great extent. So, with a heavy heart, we've shifted back to the older working theme until we resolve the bugs/errors to a satisfactory level and sometimes you have to take a step back to jump over a big obstacle.

Now, you'll notice that some of your threads/posts that were created while we were on Vb5 are missing. That data is there with us and we'll try to restore that as soon as possible. The vb5 forum is accessible only to the admins/mods right now.

Sincere apologies for all the inconvenience that you had to go through!

Works better than v5. But where are all the posts from last 2 weeks?

Mods are working on those. And even we don't get those post nevermind. We need a working set of features and stability. Good decision mods to roll back.

I came here only for this

As much as I can say I'm relieved.. I also think it may not be possible to restore back posts from vb5 to vb4. Faced similar issues between vb3 and vb4 migration on another forum and had to loose all the new posts :/

Yeah! this one has more functionality but v5 looked better, too bad we can't have best of both worlds.

Thanks so much for this! I was going insane trying to work with that temperamental vb5.

I guess most people were having serious issues and the activity on the forum had started decreasing.
Goes to show "If it aint broke, dont fix it!!"

Please try to get the posts from the two weeks back.

Sure, a step forward to improvement and growth is difficult, but what shows even more might and strength is a step back after realizing what is truely important. I think VB4 or VB5 , its secondary. But what truely matters is the fellowship and passion the members have for XBHP.

I just want to say 'its Okay' to the moderators. Dont get heavy hearted and try again #LOVE XBHP

P.s. I love This set up more than the VB5, nothing has to change :P its perfect.

Ohh. Thank god. I thought, I was the only one, who liked the old one better. Though the new version looks much better, I feel, this version is more practical.

though the newer version would have been faster , added security however the looks were not good fro eyes. this low earthy tones are natural and you can browse the forum for long. the brightish colours would make one's eyes strain quickly.

Yes it is. I wish I could the change the default grey theme and I'm all happy. Probably on some thread I read something about theme changing, anyone knows?

Re: A step back to VB4

                          Hey Guys,

Thanks for understanding everything... What we experience on the forum surely matters. And a good communication system's basic value is communication. It doesn't always have to be latest, it just has to be best at it. For right now, we believe VB4 will do a better job.

Anyways, we're not closed-minded on the idea of having VB5 in the future, so all those who liked the features of VB5, I can only say, let's be positive. VB5 requires some tuning, some big and small adjustments, plus some feature additions to make our experience delightful enough.
The Skin/ Theme should not be a worry, because custom skins are a part of mostly all kinds of forum softwares, be Invision or vBulletin or others.

Anyhow, we hope its a pleasant feeling for all of you to be back on the Xbhp, as we always knew it.

Thanks for putting it out there.

Are they going to open up a beta-port/site for vB5 testing so that interested end-customers can check and give inputs?

In my experience, nothing is best, it can only get better(or worse).
