Well, I was 19, and the bike is SUZUKI MAX 100.

As far as the experience is concerned, it's as follows -

The bike was in good condition, but not the brakes. Obviously, there are no mirrors for that bike, and while taking turns, I'd never used either hand signals or indicators, but that didn't cause much problem to me or others as it was Tirupati (just a town, not a city and so traffic was less).

There was a junction where the traffic police was waiting to stop me (obviously, I didn't wear a helmet, and I didn't even have a Learner's License then). Actually, I'd to go straight at that junction, but after seeing him, I immediately took a right turn. Luckily, there was no one coming from the opposite direction then. I think he had tried to note down the bike number, but by the time he might've read it, I was long gone.

Now, I'm wondering, how to escape from a traffic police, the first time I get my hands on a four wheeler (without making any accident).

I started riding when I was 13yrs . It was an eye opener and I am grateful it happened. For some reason I was very reluctant to ride geared bikes but the confidence instilled by my uncle was worthwhile . Started with 4S Champion.

I rode my mamu's pulsar when I was 16 . At first circled the park right in front of our house for about half an hour and then got some courage and confidence going

                              • Avanti Autogear from Kelvinator

It was 1990 & I was 9 yrs old when my dad bought a second hand Avanti-Autogear; Kelvinator produced/owned it then.

                                Technically it's a geared 2-wheeler.

I remember doing 50+ on the Speedo with dad as a pillion. Vibes were legendary, bum took a big hit. Even people owning TVS-50 envied it while I was hoping dad would purchase bigger motorcycles.
Our neighbour uncle had Rajdoot (2nd hand) Rajdoot 350 - Wikipedia. My first rides(pillion) were on Rajdoot as a kid during 1988-89. In fact my first photo(as 3-4 yr old) & the only one we've was on Yezdi. Photographer uncle had a Yezdi, all parents with male kids/toddlers used to take a photo on motorbikes during those days. Mid & late 80's were best days in my life, I hardly remember anything though.

That said, I don't have a thing for motorcycles.

                                Back to Avanti Autogear:

                                • A family of four travelled on it on few occasions.
                                • Avanti returned a solid 60 kmpl as dad boasted about among friends.
                                • I remember fixing punctures, cleaning oil-strained air-filter cum carburettor, chain cleaning, front suspension etc. Needless to say, opening up table/ceiling fan & wet-grinder for replacing/greasing bearings. Oh, mom once gave a water wash to Polar table fan with detergent powder. We received shocks till we figured out why .
                                • I met with my first accident on this moped while riding on long stretch of ragi(millet) crop laid on the road for husking. The skid was like gliding, there were no injuries though.
                                • Dad sold it six years back for 3,000/- as it was lying idle in the shed. He rides Suzuki Access125 now. Uncle(another neighbour) who bought it met with an accident on it and broke his front teeth . Guess what he wears now ? He rides TVS Champ now.
                                • btw dad is 4th grade drop out. After dropping out, life played a hard ball for the next 20 yrs in his life.

These this moped is called Auto-Power and Monto Motors bought auto-mobile unit from Kelvinator.

                                Monto : Avanti Autopower

Ours was blue though & stickers on the tank said "Avanti Autogear Kelvinator"

And twenty years later (coz, life played a another hard ball in between) in 2010, I rode friend's Honda-Achiever for clearing RTO's test for DL. I ride GS150R these days.

Whenever I see a kid riding a moped/motorcycle with dad/senior as pillion, I feel nostalgic.

                                cheers
