As you can see,I am using the forum for the first time.I realized this was the best place to do this.I hope i am not asking much.
I am currently doing a final year project with an aim to improve bike ergonomics and ride comfort.Though Rider comfort level is subjective and strongly associated with the type of bike and place of driving, we want to develop a kind of universal design. My team is doing extensive study in "human factor engineering"and as a part of a survey we have developed a
QUESTIONNAIRE to pin point exactly the problems associated with bike riding(if any). It would really be helpful, if you guys answered these and shared your opinion.Any added idea, advice or direction will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you...
1. What is the most comfortable bike you have ever driven?
2. Do you experience repeated body pains while riding and if you do please mention the part, muscle or joint?
3. (A)Are these symptoms experienced only during bike riding or (B)are they carried onto/from your other daily activities?
(you can answer as "A" or "B" to represent yes to the part you agree with )
4. During what other daily activities do you experience the same pain?
( Leave blank if answer is "A" for question 4)
5. Do you feel a body part fatigued particularly only after long driving sessions and if so what part?
6. Do you feel the need of adjust-ability features in your bike? Do you believe if such features were available you could do away with the pain?
7. What adjust-ability features would you like in your bike to be installed?
( Leave blank if answer is NO for question 7)
8. What would represent your sitting posture on the bike a.) inward curved spine - a shape similar to when standing
b.) straight back - neutral position (of sitting)
c.) outward curved - lightly hunched posture?
(you can answer in abc's)
9. (A)Do you consciously put this posture or (B)is it involuntary?Do you believe that the bike's design aids/forces you to attain such posture?
(please mention your bike also here)
(you can answer as "A" or "B" to represent yes to the part you agree with )
10. Do you frequently change/cycle your posture to alleviate from pain or when you are migrating from traffic to open highways, etc?
11. Do you feel the need of back support(lumbar support)?
12. (A)Do you believe in using enhancements such as gloves, jackets etc to improve your riding experience or (B)Do you emphasize bike riding should be comfortable even when you
are naked (not seriously)?
(you can answer as "A" or "B" to represent yes to the part you agree with )
13. Whom do you credit your cause of fatigue (if any) to - the bike design or yourself?
We expect the result of the project to be a conceptual Universal bike design(based on INDIAN anthropometric data) to fit as much Indian population as possible (not in one bike of course) comfortably. We expect to improve rider comfort and experience; and reduce fatigue, pain and riding induced ailments. If we did fail to do so, the whatever result we get would at least be findings that would benefit current bike designs and help us give an insight into what is going wrong and causing problems so that future designs take this into account. Thank you soooooooooooo muchhhhhhh for your time.
Please mention your age, Height , weight (if you are willing).
