Help! Someone tried stealing my motorcycle! First few steps in approaching this?

Hello everyone! First post here so please excuse any mistakes regarding forum rules.
Woke up this morning to my new apache 2004V with its steering lock broken. Somehow rode it to svc and they will be welding it back in place. They were shocked as to how my security didnt hear a sound and even more shocked that i didnt lose my bike because they were almost done(the mechanic opened the lock with one swing of a small hammer). They suggested that it could also be a deliberate attempt to damage the bike.
I live in south bangalore and I park it inside my apartment which has a short jumpable gate and a security(who sleeps all night after a few drinks even). Its been parked here for the last couple of months and my old activa has been here for over a year too. I havent heard of thieves trying to steal bikes from inside of an apartment. The street behind my apartment has all its bikes parked outside. Its my first bike and i am really scared now. Have no idea if parking it in my friends place(out on the road in a different area) for a few days will help or not. Will surely buy a disk lock, fork lock and chain now. Somehow lucked out this time but i cant rely on that anymore.
What else can i do immediately and also in long term(regarding where i can safely park untill the thief forgets about this and also safety measures etc for future).
What are the first steps i can take now that i know someone wants my bike?
Can i file a complaint without any evidence(no cctv camera here)?

      Approved and merged!

Yes you can still file a complaint and I would advise on doing so.
Changing residence is the best option (if your area has thefts on the rise).

Read through this thread and you have all options available. it was created years ago but it's ever-relevant.
      Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

If you have ways to chain your bike to something permanent then do it.
Buy a pair of heavy metal chains and high quality padlocks from reputed brands such as Link/Godrej. Fasten the rear wheel and front wheel with The Chassis such that there are no bolts or screws which can unlock it.
Now tie these chain further to any permanent object in the basement parking.
Add disc lock, brake lock, handle lock to it.

While doing all this will ensure that the thief will rather avoid your bike as a target because of too much hassle. However it will take some time daily for the restraining of the bike for safety.

Although someone may damage your bike due to frustration. This is what happened to my friend's KTM RC390. He used some security measure after noticing the possible theft attempt. The next morning his bike's seats, wheels and several other parts were gone. Also the bike was heavily scratched and all fuel gone. . How sad that sounds for a new bike. Those mo********g thieves.

And yes, the last thing which many may overlook is getting a ugly bike cover. It will save your bike from unnecessary visibility when not needed. [emoji14]
I also cover my bike with an ugly cover and make sure it's not dusty as it will seem that it's not being attended to.
Park in the middle of other bikes if possible, and under a light source. Use oil or lubes around chain and locks as it will make them harder and very difficult to break with conventional methods.
Do no leave any chain or locks in contact with ground at all. Breaking them is easiest when they're in contact with a hard surface.
There's an additional feature I would like to advise is a silent alarm. If you can find a friend who's a great DIYer, ask him to build a circuit with GPS or wireless sensors that trip and silently alarm you when someone messes up with the bike's location or parts. Don't use them chinese alarms, otherwise your neighbors will wreak havoc on your bike before the thieves lol due to the annoying noise it creates.

Oh i did read this. Just didnt want to revive an old thread. Also most of the websites ive checked talk about what to do prevent theft before it happens and not to deter someone who has tried and failed.
The cops washed their hands away and didnt take a complaint because
          1. My bike was not stolen.
          2. I did not have cctv footage.
Maybe ill try again with someone who knows a few officers here.
Got the bike fixed for around 400 rs and now parking it in my friends apartment.
The problem with security systems is the warranty and the problem with the xena disc lock is that it is unavailable here in india.
Other than a cover and a chain what exactly can i do for the time being? Cannot change residence as of now. Also this area doesnt have this kind of theft problem. Loads of ktms parked on the road overnight.

          Hey! Thanks for replying!
I will be chaining it to a pillar. Cant find any thick chains with that rubber covering around it. Checked a few hardware shops around my place and they have long but thin chains for a poodle maybe. Nothing the thief cant handle.
The time i take to unlock it is not an issue since i dont want my bike stolen.

Thats so depressing that they would resort to damaging your bike to such an extent. For me its more than just a way to travel. Its just so sad.
It was parked under a bright light with a bicycle and an activa on either side. I did get a cover now and hopefully it gets ugly soon.
What do you mean by lubricating the chain and lock?
Have parked it at my friends place for now until i can convince my building owners to install a cctv and change that useless security guard.
Since my bike is new i dont want to void the warranty with the alarms(unless i have no other option-bike without warranty is still better than no bike). Coming to the xena disc locks do i need a particular model of it?

Lubricating the chain and padlock with which you will be restraining the bike. This will make the chain slip a bit if someone uses hammer, or sort of cutter. He has to degrease it and then cut it which will take time and efforts.
