I think the level you r talkin about is called the neutral finder. It was a smallish level co-axial with the kick start !! Its gone along with the left side gear shifters I guess !!Originally posted by Technocrat View PostThe neutral lever is still there in addition to the kick & gear lever
The yezdi had an amazing(or rather amusing) gear lever/ kick. Imagine you have a kick which you pull up as high as kick & then kick it backwards & if the engine starts it will will recoil back to the gear lever position
I still remember my Yezdi from the college days !! All these discussions about them have brought back memories of her !!
There was a strange problem in my Yezdi, wherein sometimes the bike actually started wen it gave a back kick and so I think the crank rotated in the reverse direction !!
And the bike used to actually move backwards wen I shifted into first gear !!

^ I guess I have poor memory about it then. But I clearly remember the 'neutral' lever on the Machismo.
Thanks for confirming this

Bullets have a seperate kick starter lever.Originally posted by niks_devil666 View PostAbout this - Which bike had a commom starter and gear lever ?
Didn't the bullets also have this?I remember had ridden a machismo 350 in 1999 , it had this (or my memory is a blur
)
The Jawa/Yezdi 250 is the only bike which shared a kicker cum gear lever mechanism.

Dude, please get your facts right first.Originally posted by marvinpatrickgray View Postflower-head yezdi were not Roadkings. The flower-head ones were the first to roll out after the transition from Jawa to Yezdi. that was in 1972-73. I have seen just two Ys with a flower-head in my entire life.
Yezdi 350 was and is the second most powerful bike after RD350. It even gives RD a competition till 120kmph, then RD takes over due to its uniform power-band. RD had two carbs but Y350 had just one. Both were awesome but were banned due to emission norns. Both these bikes arrived much before their time. Had it been today, they would have been very successful and well accepted by Young India.
I've been to the Yezdi factory a few times and I know the largest yezdi owners circle in the country. One of my friends owns the largest collection of restored 350s and CZs.
Some facts,
* The flower head came as a prototype on the RKs in the mid 90s and thats what I'm talking about. Indeed the CL II also had a few flower head models.
*In stock form, the Fury 175 was faster than the Roadking and the Yezdi 350 as it revved higher and had a close ratio GB. The 350 was however pretty close to the Fury. Lets not talk about the RD. It was in a class of its own. Nothing can come close to an RD till 120.
*Yes the Y350 had a 28mm single carb fuelling 2 cylinders and the Fury 175 had just one cylinder with a 28mm carb. Which means to say that the Fury was more potent. The RD had 2 175cc barrels with 28mm carb on each, which is effectively like 2 Fury engines put together. And literally on paper it made twice the power.
*The RD350 and Y350 were not stopped due to emission norms. heck in 1991 there was not even a CAT. They were stopped due to loosing sales and lack of acceptance. Most would only buy scooters and 100cc bikes.
*Today people pay 4 times more than what they could pay for a brand new RD in the 90s but its too late. Yes the RD was way ahead of its time but not the Y350. It was already dated. It was a bike with tech from the 60s.

Silly me didnt think Rk == Road King
Yeah I knew of the changes to the engine but the only major difference that I used to use for differentiating was the boxyness of Yezdi & IIRC even the tail lamp was different with Jawa.
Btw we ararely find mention or discussion on the 350

RK is a short form for Road King.
Yes, all the jawas were later named as the Yezdi. The bubbly looking Jawa 250 evolved into a more boxy looking Yezdi CL II. Then the RoadKing was the high performance engine with a 250cc aircooled shorter stroke (compared to the lazy jawas), CDI igntion, 16bhp and the later versions even had a flower head. There was also an aluminium cylinder kit which was made available to keep the weight in check as the older cylinders were solid cast iron ones.

I got almost all of them except for 6 which I have confused between Jawa & Yezdi. Btw apart from the 6th one arent other features(not counting 5th Q) too common with Jawa?
Also didnt know there was RK250
