My advice will be to not fiddle around with the thing. And why did you feel the need of going for this. It's just a scooty mate.

today i bought boric acid from a good reputed pharmacy chain
the boric acid costed me rs.38/- for 50gram and was nicely packed and was manufactured by agarwal chemicals Delhi
i measured out required qty and mixed it with shell ax5 20w-40 4t oil
the boric acid mixed well, though there were some lumps they got easily removed after straining with a muslin cloth (this made me suspect the authenticity of boric acid i used, thats why this post)
i read that many had problems mixing it with oil
i am attaching the pictures of the mix

^^^did you dissolve the boric powder in the oil and filtering before filling it in the engine? it still after some time sediments like this?

I have few doubts. There are many telling it is working and some are telling it is not working. If is working is it OK to use on a new scooter with less than 1k usage? What will happen if the engine don't SET IN at all due to this? I am having a new scooter with 700kms run. If it will be negative effect I can try on relative Honda Activa which has run over 35k.

It will not work. The carrom board powder(mostly boric acid powder) may sit between the coin and the board and make the coin slide, but not necessarily it should work in engine of car or bike. Needless to say it will definitely get filtered in oil filter of car and in some bikes.
I myself one of the idiots who experimented this. Guess what happened no difference felt and the boric acid powder got sedimented in Centrifugal filter. Have a look of the centrigugal flter of my Honda unicorn.
I experiment this in my unicorn believing it will prolong the engine life(greedy 'eh). But in reality it doesn't have any effect on engines.

Those who love their bike, service it regularly in Honda service center. Thar's the best thing you can do to your bike.

Its because engines carry on their 'setting in' (also sometime stated as running in, wrongly) process. Which last upto 10k kms to 15k kms. Simply one can say engines are still (relatively) new till 15k kms and using boric acid can prevent engine from 'setting in'.
Btw, using boric acid (with home made solution) on any engine is not adviced.

well, it was my friend's bike. One day he needed gear oil topup, after college we went to his mechanic who poured some gear oil (servo brand, EP90 grade) mixed with grease.
Just before the topup we poured around 1 tea spoon of dry boric acid power into the filler hole.
    That's it no mixing drama

Guys...tested this on my lightning 535, probably very less for a 2litre oil.

    a. Rode the bike for around 15kms to ensure oil is little heated up
    b. Without switching off the engine, left it idle for few minutes
    c. Just put in around 10gms in a 50 ml of 20/40 oil and mixed it well, it was almost like a paste.
    d. Mixed it with 2 lts of 20/40 oil & filled it.

Have ridden it for almost 40/50kms, but dint see any major difference, the sound seems to be lessened from the cam area & yet to see any major difference out here.

I had done it when my bike was about 16000 kms old last July/August. The bike seemed smooter (could have been psychological ) but my engine oil did last longer - more than 6000 kms compared to the normal 3500 kms that I usually get.

Now since I've gone in for a bigger bore, not done any experimenting as it's just about 7000 kms old, though the bike is 46000+ kms old now

Lets see after I run another 10000 kms, I might try it again if I still have the bike

    @ rameshmadhavan,
I have experimented with RE 350. Didn't noticed any huge difference (only cold start problem was reduced, not fixed mind you)
and tappets started making sound, when valve cover was opened there were boric acid all over. Though no damage was found.
In my opinion, dont do this.
Another thing, I poured some boric acid in gearbox, gear shift quality turned slightly better. But this change was noticed after long time (after a month or so)
    .
Disclaimer: your bike, your decision. Dont blame me if something bad happens

ya, i am also talking about engine oil only 4 stroke bikes (except RE) has only one type of oil in bike and that is engine oil and is filled in gearbox sump, from there it is circulated to all engine parts and oil filter is also in gearbox.

regarding RE i am not very knowledgable but untill and unless there is some serious problem you are facing, why are you experimenting?

always keep in mind, there are risks involved and if 10 people say its good you will find 3-4 persons saying it is not good.

be fully aware of the risks involved.

i don't know whether RTR has a centrifugal oil filter or not, but my pulsar's centrifugal filter was able to filter it out.
He has mixed it with the engine oil, not sure about the oil filter...

Am planning in for my Cast Iron engine, as such there is no filter out here & its going to deal with all Iron machinery around
