Dear highbrows, i always wondered and cursed the term 'thinking out of the box', thinking about why cant we have 2 wheel drive bikes. i mean 2x2?

    please give your ideas
    the pros and against

let us pen-down some science also
We wouldn't need a forum if we all had same opinions, same thoughts, and same bikes..... Enjoy the difference.

it is good to have control on both the wheels by the engine.. But the handle bar is connected to the front wheel, so any mechanical connection from engine is not possible.. hydraulic is a good idea.. but I dont think it will make any big difference...
Please use all possible safety measures while riding and remember others also riding on the same road...

          firstly,
The purpose of all wheel drive bikes, would be probably not for daily use.

To Addyrulz: i saw the links, the R1 is really a break through.

i recall there was a funny looking 3 wheeled truck in chennai, and it was a front turning wheel drive.

Using 'CV axles' to power the front wheel is what comes into my mind. If I would have been a part of research team of 2WD motorcycle systems, I would have preferred 'CV axles'. Those are easily rotatable and are already employed in FWD cars.

and the purpose of all wheel drive bikes, would be probably para-civil use.

i wonder about the stability, would it increase or decrease.

Have heard about this 2WD motorcycles a while ago. They're still in production by 2 companies Rokon & Cristini.

                  ROKON: Products
                  Christini All Wheel Drive Motorcycles

I'm not well versed to have understood the concept, but on a bird eye view, the motor, instead of, connecting directly to rear wheel, the motor is connected to hydraulic pump that generates pressure & sends the power to both the wheels. So when one raises the throttle, both the wheels are powered. So in a dirt track or something, if the rear wheel spins, the front wheel has ability to pull the motorcycle.
