  • Safe Riding/Driving School

Hey guys its been a long time since I have been thinking of starting up a Driving and riding safety school. Not only basic riding and driving techniques will be covered, but also ALL RULES, different type of situation toggeling, Safety system usage (ABS, ESP, TC), Emergency situations, pre and post crash trainings, etc. I want to set this up (if possible) not for profit making, but just to improve the road situation in India. Volunteers, please contact me. [email protected] or PM me . May be we can start up something nice that may help the public.

Hemank, great idea, I appreciate that. But remember, you can take a Horse to water but you can't make him drink

But if ther is water, atleast 10 out of 1000 horses will drink. the rest will die with thirst. slowly slowly, more horses will understand the imp of water and change.

^^^ Absolutely correct; forget even 10, if it can bring a great deal of change to even 1 out of every 100, it is successful. Keeping the cost, interest & time under control are great challenges. Because, people who already have license may not be interested & people who're in the process of obtaining one will need it soon (if possible next minute ).

So, there should be a balance to attract both the crowd. IMHO, its east & BEST to start with the young crowd who're yet to obtain because, they're educated the right way & the approach is from the root which means you're beginning to change the system, the system of chaos!!!

PS - Let me know when you start, I'll open a franchisee in Chennai

@Hemank - What you'e penned down today, I've thought about it very seriously somewhere in 2009 or so. I dropped the idea because...
                  1. Very few people will be interested because, like I said before, everyone wants to get there fast, but they don't care which is the right way to take
                  2. Cost is a major factor. To accomplish these things, one has to spend several hours within 4 walls & mighty hours on the road.
                  3. Even if someone graduates out of the school successfully, there're enough number of morons to twist them back. For example, knowing all these, sometimes, I too get out of this because of the insane system around me.
                  4. Timings will be very odd & it will depend upon every individual's taste & if one discontinues the course, that's the greatest insult & I personally can't tolerate
                  5. Since this is an unique concept, its hard to sell the idea to people initially; however, once sent across correctly, I'm sure - THERE'S A CHANGE IN THE SYSTEM

PS - I don't know the effectiveness of the effort of Maruti Driving school. I've seen & heard them doing good. But there're hardly few enrollments due to high cost involved. This country needs to understand a lot in life other than money

The problem here is that everybody thinks They have the right of way,be it a Bus, a Car,a Bike or even walking, and WE ARE ALWAYS RIGHT,and others are getting in OUR way..Unless this attitude changes en-mass,there is little hope for improvement on the roads...We already have rules which are ignored, and laws which are over run...
Your attempt in this scenario will face more flak than a English Lancaster over Berlin in WW 2.
Yours is a NOBLE attempt at setting right ,what even the Govt., had chosen to ignore....only to wake up in knee jerk situation.

Wishing you God's blessings, and TONS of Good Luck.

Well said, civic sense and common courtesy are well and truly missing, from the uneducated through to highly educated individuals, driving tests are a joke and often not required to obtain a license! Try driving in Germany the way we do here.

Having said all that I would like riding lessons, just completed 4 weeks and 700kms, no real experience before, but with my license I can ride an R1 etc.

Good luck, every little helps, after a campaign last year we have less drivers with permanent high beam, they actually dip, the problem here is with so many out of station vehicles it becomes almost worthless at times
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Thanks a lot man. And Now that you all know, Our country is wayyy too backward in terms of discipline, It is almost impossible to change it. Instead can we start a voluntary safety school?
lets start from XBHP itself. I think, none of us, including me, know all rules 100%. I think, its time for a G2G, if not in real, atleast on this thread, where we can add our inputs. May be we should start discussing the problems we face everyday, point by point, and make a riders/drivers dictionary sorta thing on XBHP. If possible. Lets make a XBHP Rule book, and lets try and follow it. Very difficult for all, but lets try. Atleast 10000 xbhp members, riding n driving by the rules is changing india's traffic by 2% .

First of all let us all adhere to using the Helmet when we ride and educate all we come across on it's merit....Even when it is compulsory in Tamilnadu, we see many without it..
Second and most important ,obey traffic rules.esp., the lights .In this regard I would like to recollect a traffic warden's funny anecdote about traffic lights .When he asked about the same at a school, a Child answered thus :
Child "Green means you can go, Red means you stop".
Traffic cop." Good, what about Amber "
                            Child " You Go Faster".
Lets set good example, for others to follow.

^^^ Hmm...I guess I'm doing my 2 cents. I've taught my Son on the traffic lights & he complaints to me when ppl jump signals.

In a way, I believe this is little dangerous because, in a country when 99% of them jump the law & 1% of them follow it are bound to get all sorts of threats (including life) due to the majority of them who're doing incorrect things.

Imagine when a person looks up the signal that says walk & when he crosses the road only to find a vehicle jumping signal...very dangerous.

Its most important to stay triple cautious these days & I'm sure in the forth coming years its going to be quad cautious & even more!!!

Typical example - A decade ago, to cross the road, we only needed to look first right side, come to middle & then look left. But these days, I've to keep looking left & right until I cross the road (hopefully I do) 'cause there're number of people who think there's nothing wrong in riding/driving in wrong direction. It all started with cyclists who found difficult to pedal to take a U-turn, followed by bikers & now even the buses & truck are doing it with headlights turned ON. What's worse is that, these guys justify that they've turned ON the lights & its our mistake for not yielding to them

PS - Anyway, sorry about my rantings as I'm beginning to loose my confidence on road rules in this country.
