^^ Valid points relating to engine rpms. So, therein lies the main reason I guess.

VERY detailed review of the Nano there. Liked it.
Your biking tells a lot about the person you are!

ya, i also like the nano review....

but i seriously think that bikes can still be a lot cheaper than their existing prices.

^^ they can be.. but then they wont be as much fun to ride, or wont last as long as intended.

          Why Do Bikes Cost More?

This has been bothering me since long....

If a Nano with Twin Cylender 600cc engine, four seats, 4 doors, and all the accompanying goodies and necessities can be made and sold @ 1lac+, An Alto with 3 cylenders, 1100 ccs and pretty much feature laden, power steered comes @3lacs+, an ABS, Airbags wala car is sold around 4lacs+ then why the bikes commnand so much price.. Even a 250cc Twin (N250R) costs 3lacs or a single Cylinder 17ps bike cost around 1 lac.. and a 1000 cc bike cost near to the cost of a HONDA CIVIC ! I understand it involves a lot of R&D and intellects but then same goes with the cars too!

It may be a very noob question.. but please put in your thoughts on it!
***Correct me if I am wrong :)

Simply because it costs more to make things compact enough to fit in the frame of the bike.

Think about the time and energy and money and skill you will need to downsize the Alto K10's engine enough that it would fit in your CBR250's frame.

            got the drift?

i cant agree with you..sorry sunilg.
here we are not talking about cost of swapping car engine into a motorcycle instead he was try to ask about the high pricing of bikes when compared to the cars with same pricing or normal pricing with lots off goodies and even 10 times more cc engine.

it can be in the case of super bikes which are equipped with a larg engine. but not in the case of Indian commuter or premium bikes which are very highly priced.

personally i think its because of the high demand for bikes in Indian market. normal Indians like to own a bike first which will give good efficiency when compared to cars...this made so much demand for bikes and bike prices are going sky high nowadays...

This statement is confusing, isn't it? The discussion was why bike prices are more than car prices gievn for the same CC. Commuter bike are equipped with engines of less than 300 CC. Typically, Car engine's CC is minimum of 800 CC. An 800 CC Bike would be hell lot costlier than a 800 CC bike because of the sheer compactness of parts & technology the manufacturer has to fit into a bike.

It is because it takes a lot more research and development effort to make a machine that weights slightly more than ur 220cc Pulsar, has 10 times more power, corners at speeds as high as 250Km/Hr, can do naught to 100 in 3Secs, can blow the hell out of a 2Crore rupee ferrari and still be more fuel efficient than a Alto k10... wooohh!!

Mostly the price u pay for is the R&D cost. It takes a lot of money to develop a new bike.

What you say is true, although what is being asked in this thread is more like...why does a Zmr which is basically a fuel injected Karizma-R with bigger fairing and digital consoles costs almost the same as a Nano. There is nothing much about Zmr engine or chassis and such. They are as basic as can be.
