bro, the registration numbers can be on a mudguard, windshield or any other front part of d bike... but it should be horizontal and not vertical. that's what
Bro, are you sure?
If the registration numbers are on the Mudguard then is it Front Facing?

Moreover I suppose both Front and rear registration numbers should be on a Plate and not direct stickers.

May be its acceptable for Cabs, Auto's and Trucks but for Two wheelers I am afraid.....

But not sure though...

its just my interpretation on reading the red coloured letters as you can see... not sure though..
A crash on d road may kill d biker n d bike, but d relationship btwn d bike n d biker never dies.

Its only next to d relationship btwn d mother n her baby.

The rules aargee mentioned in the first post are part of the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989. So should be applicable all over India (i think).

Link to section 50.
Link to Section 51.
Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.

What I noticed was, in the entire text they talk about the number plate. But, while coming to the front of a Motorcycle they mention "registration mark".

Does that mean we not not have the aluminium plate (and can hence use a sticker)?

My understanding is that stickers are allowed as long as it conforms to the lettering size in section 51 (makes it a long sticker).
But, mudguard stickers are not allowed because you have mostly violated the size requirements and the numbers are not facing front, but up

As anyone confirmed with someone from a transport office? Surely, members here would have contacts.

Does this mean we can put up a sticker on the front fender?
I still have the number plate on my bike but I am seriously thinking of going the sticker way
How do the cops react to stickers on front fenders in metros and cities like Pune, Bangalore etc.
Here in Odisha the rule is too lax to be followed but I am interested if I may ride down someday to the metros would I be in trouble??

Re: How should your number plate look like?

sparxblood I live in Pune and ride my scooter with a sticker on the front mudguard all the time I have been stopped only once in this layout but the cops did not mind.

However, before the sticker was put in place, I was stopped by cops once and I had recently replaced my front panel myself because it was cracked. This meant the numberplate was off and I was fined Rs100 for not having a number plate up front.

So I guess, a sticker on the mudguard should do fine. Or if you are unsure of the mudguard, put it on the windsheild.

Here is a pic of my scooter.

No not for bikes but for cars only in the form of a tiny hologram on the side of the wind screen

This style isn't allowed for new vehicles but for antiques and classics that come under heritage vehicles catagory. Such bikes snd cars will be exempted from above rules provided they are more than 30 years old as this was the norm 30 years ago. They will also be allowed to retain original licence plate number which are outdated and bear old defunct nomenclature.

Cabs, autos, and trucks have numers on the side in addition to proper plates as they transport vehicles and that I the norm. Plus trucks are big and new autos are supplied with proper plates and sticker job on body is now not acceptable.

Registration mark means they will use a tiny hologram for authenticity of plate up front. Sticker job directly on the body of a bike or car is not allowed.

On the mudguard of the bike there are two problems one it is not facing forward so visibility of plate is nil for other people especially cops. And two lettering aside, a bit of dirt or bright headlamp in the night can prevent people from seeing the plate.
Also I think the correct format cannot be adhered to.
