@naren, import duty for a 1000cc bike is 6.30 lakh. In addition to this you will have to pay 2.70 lakh bank guarantee. You stand to get back this amount after a certain period of time. Since this bike has not been caught by DRI anytime before, the moment to go to them the RTO registration becomes void. So you have to repay the road tax + registration tax + insurance. This may sum up to 50K. So you would pay, in addition to the cost of the bike, 6.30 Lakh + 2.70 Lakh + 50 k = 9.50 Lakhs approx. So if you buy this bike at 7 lakh, the total cost will be 16.50 lakhs...You are better off buying official 2010 R1 at 14 lakh.Last edited by ashtorque; 02-05-2010, 11:43 AM.

@naren, I agree with insane79, not worth buying a grey bike, just think if caught in dri net and have to pay duties how much will it cost. in any case 7L for a grey fz1 is way too much. go for the legal honda cb1000r or a used official mt01.

I think I may know that bike. What colour is it?Originally posted by bullseye_naren View Postguys, i had a news from a dealer about a fazer 1000cc(2007 model) for sale and went to have a look. it has clocked exactly 1955 kms, looks new and fited with akrapovic exhaust and MH registered. it has been quoted for a price of 7L and duties were not paid. is it worth 7L without proper papers?
also any idea of how much duty it has to be paid?

Hi guys...
When does these auctions take place by the DRI ?
And what are necessary things we require to make a purchase in the auctions ?
And kindly mention other all details , which the Xbhp'ians come across,
whichever you think is mandatory...
Thanks..

@ashtorque, as I had mentioned, my bike is customs auctioned and all the papers were in order, mainly the customs sales reciept, I didn't have to go through any paperwork nor were there any dues so no experience in that regard. As far as your friend's bike is concerned, any duty that he may have paid will be deducted. 15% dealer discount should be deducted from the msrp of the bike and duties will be calculated on the landed cost in India, +penalties + interest. It all depends on the officer in charge. the people in dri were more interested in knowing the dealer I may have bought the bike from. best of luck!

DRI procedure?
@Anshul,
Do you mind educating us about the DRI problem? I am sure lot of our bro's are in trouble and the DRI tends to scare them off!!!
My cousin is one such fella who is trapped in this problem for importing a liter class SBK in 2007. So far he has been through the following things:- DRI confiscated his bike and was lying in the police station for 7 days.
- He had to pay a bank guarantee of 1 lac and get it out of there
- He had to pay some taxes to RTO since the registration got cancelled
Can you please tell me whether he is missing out on something here? Thanks man!

my honda 954rr was cleared and released by the D.R.I, through a release order they posted to my address. I had to go to their office at the cgo complex only twice, no harassment as my bike was customs auctioned and all papers were in order, although they took their own sweet time.Last edited by anshuljain; 01-31-2010, 10:09 PM.

Um, can you say “cross-plane?” Any streetbike that sounds like a MotoGP machine is bound to clean house when it comes to coolness. The R1’s intoxicating exhaust note is rivaled only by a raspy Triple from Triumph for sheer happy-happy-joy-joy fun; the other three don’t come close here.
Kevin clues us in to why the R1 is easy to gravitate toward: “It’s one of the few engines that makes me want to rev it up just to hear its distinct growl.”
Factor in GP tech spinning up the rear tire with confidence, throw in the mode switch that alters the rate of throttle opening but doesn’t cut power, and the R1 is the Burger Barn champ.

the indian context. here you go..
5. zma - 5%
6. r-15 8%
7. fz-16-9%
8. rd 350-9%
and lastly, a maruti wagon -r.... -12%... ooops.. i missed the decimal point between 1 and 2
