I'd like to share an interesting piece of information with my fellow members.
A few days back, two people were killed during an early morning ride on a 2007 R1. They hit a Tata Sumo head on and were killed on the spot. I believe they were not wearing helmets as well. While this (lack of gear) is very unfortunate, I would like to express my condolences to the families of the deceased.
However, following this, the Bangalore police has begun cracking down on owners of such bikes. One of the steps includes the creation of a database containing details of the people who own such bikes. I got a call from someone regarding this, but I did not give my details without knowing who's really on the other end of the line.
I was chatting with GS about this who rightly said that when it comes down to it, these are just bikes that are used as transportation, and nowhere else would bikers be treated like this. I have heard and seen a lot of jumpiness amongst car drivers and law enforcers in the US when they see bikers on the road, but this takes the cream. I am not sure what else to add, and would like to see what everyone else thinks of this."Tough times never last, but tough people do." - Robert Schuller

Regarding the crackdown, backwardness/conservatism seems to be creeping in nowadays in Bangalore. Bangaloreans/Bengalureans know what I am talking about. Certain groups are being targetted. Bikers (SBKs) are one of them. There is no law against riding bikes (read SBKs). So I don't know what the police are trying to enforce. I agree with you, Akhil. It is absolute nonsense. I even wonder if there will be a problem when Sunny and GIR crew arrive here.DoN\'t LivE tO DiE, dIe tO LiVe

Can't comment till one knows the identity of the caller/s. I doubt the cops would do such a thing. Could be the DRI?Originally posted by rossiter View PostI'd like to share an interesting piece of information with my fellow members.

An unfortunate incident, my condolences to the families of the deceased.
I don't understand how would creating such a database help the cops?It sounds more like DRI who went on picking around a hundred bikes from Mumbai/Pune.A news article had also stated that they might be targetting other cities after the crackdown in Maharashtra cities.sigpicThe Moto Cafe - India's first bike theme cafe @ Chandni Chowk

^^My sincere condolences to the deceased. But a part of me is is revolting against the thought that neither the rider nor the pillion was wearing a helmet.
The crackdown on SBK owners is news to me. Bits of news such as this which is more masala than anything else usually doesn't escape TOI.
@Akhil : I hope the bureaucracy doesn't take it upon itself to harass SBK owners such as you

a minor correction there : we are not sure if they were wearing helmets and at what speed did they crash.Even at high speeds , sometimes helmets can't help , after all its a protection , not your guardian angel.Originally posted by MavericK46 View Post^^My sincere condolences to the deceased. The TOI article regarding this very accident specified clearly that the two weren't wearing helmets.Originally posted by niks_devil666 View Posta minor correction there : we are not sure if they were wearing helmets and at what speed did they crash.Even at high speeds , sometimes helmets can't help , after all its a protection , not your guardian angel.
Id seen a black '07 R1 alongwith a Busa and a 600RR near residency road about a week ago. The guy on the 'One was lidless. Wondering if the bike and the rider in the accident are the same as id seen earlier...I'm normally not a praying man, but if you're up there, please save me Superman.

Unfortunate. I think it has to do with the "How will people see that it is I, Mr. abcdef, who can afford to buy such an expensive bike if I hide it behind a helmet" mentality.
Akin to the more popular "How will people see that it is I, Mr abcdef, who has pimped up my sedan with huge alloys and a loud ass exhaust & decals if I keep my tinted windows up while cruising around town at night"
Only difference is there is a whole car protecting the latter while the former has pretty much nothing except his (usually body hugging) shirt.

^^ Too sad it happened. All depends on education & life's experiences! After all, they are humans like us too.
Proper education at the right age, should have changed them.

Question to MODS -->
I now know a contact, who owns 2 Superbikes. He's not an Xbhp member, lives in Ajmer, & I'm not sure if he rides geared up properly. I'll interview him in a week or 2...
So, Will it be approved if I post it on Xbhp? It will be interesting to know, how "Superbikers outside Xbhp" are, what they do, etc.---

The drive mode will limit the power delivered to the wheel depending on the mode chosen by the rider. This is done to adapt the bike to different riding conditions like rainy conditons and bad roads.Originally posted by frank_dude_007 View Posti heard there is a thing called Suzuki Drive Mode in hayabusa , can anyone tell me what exactly it is and is there any other SBK available in india (or will be available till the end of the year) which has a similar function?
It also helps people with less driving experience to scale up gradually to the full power the bike has to offer. Basically Mode A has full power, mode by delivers lesser power (not sure by how much) and mode C lessens it even more by 30% of full !!
This is also there in Suzuki GSX-R 1000, and '09 Yamaha R1.Kawasaki Ninja : Because lazy sunday afternoons should be despatched at 160 kmph!!!
Hyosung Aquila : Because sometimes you need to look cool while riding at 40 kmph and you can do that only on a cruiser !!!
