  • Scooter riding - long distance?

I drive about 40kms per day in my honda activa. I find it a very stressful to drive it for such long distances everyday. After 10kms i'm finding it ergonomically uncomfortable. I follow proper driving postures. Is that how driving scooters are? I'm guessing scooters are for shot distances but still how good are they for long commuting?

(gonna buy a new bike soon!! will have to adjust with honda activa for a few months!!)
For a healthy lifestyle one needs a good pair of running shoes and a super awesome bike!

scooter is generally for shorter distance. But frankly i have done pune sangli pune in half a day on an activa and didnt feel so tired ! May be because it was highway riding !! You can actually put additional foam on the seat and keep changing positions and not sit in one position all the time.

You can try sitting a little farther from the handle bar if only you would be riding. Sometimes when I ride an Activa, I ll sit near the half mark of the seat and find it comfortable.

I did Pune-Mumbai-Pune 5 times on my Honda Eterno and frankly I got a little bit of a pain only towards the last 10km of the total 120km (one way) that I did.

          Here's what i suggest:

          1) Dont keep anything between your legs, because adjusting you legs in weird ways around bags, briefcases etc totally spoils the whole body posture.

          2) If you have a backpack, dont let it hang on your back, let it rest on the seat behind you or else wear the back-pack on your front with the bag resting on your lap. This ACTUALLY makes a HELL of a difference, apart from shielding you from the wind.

          3) Dont sit too far from the handles, your arms should be bent at the elbows, not rod straight like tapori kids who ride dios n scooty peps without helmets and with rear mud guard removed. Also keep your legs in the front and dont rest them on the foot pegs meant for the pillion (like how the tapori kids ride)

          4) The ability to hold off pain differs for each individual rider. But make sure you are not deficient on VitC. And I say this dead seriously, adequate VitC in your system would mean no more butt aches & no more ache at the shoulder blades. All it takes is half a lemon squeeze of refreshing Nimbu Pani. Trust me, this would help a lot!

          Hope this helps.

these are good suggestions, man i never knew that vitC thing.

get your front and rear shock absorbers checked. it makes hell lot of difference, otherwise shift over to a bike.

Thanks! It was valuble information. Yea i'm used to riding with backpack and don't change positions very often. And the most important thing that i want to try out is the 'Vit C'!!

Yes have to get the shocks checked as it might hav worn out due to driving on rugged roads! Shifting to bike is what i'm gonna opt for too. Soon. Hopefully

                    One more thing to add..
Stop every 1-2 hrs and have a walk.
This also helps bikers and drivers.
I use to push my bike (& scoot) for 5-10 minutes when taking a break while touring or highway commuting. It helps in blood circulation for body and helps engine cool down a bit.

i used to ride a scooty earlier. My commute was short and so i never experienced any body ache. But whenever i did a long ride in the city (blore) i would have body ache.
A couple of my friends also complained about back ache. They use scooters and they ride a distanceof around 15+ kms one way.

I did some experimentation and noticed that if followed lane discipline and avoided getting into gaps at signals then body ache would reduce.

New Activa's suspension and seating/riding position is better than the previous one. Honda Aviator's and Suzuki Assess's front suspension is even better. Normally a scooter's front suspension has dive during any undulations and potholes, but the newer telescopic fork technology reduces driving fatigue considerably. If we experience body ache in city driving, it can be with stressful pressurised driving, cramped driving.

Once I did 156 kms on a single day in my dio. Although I did it in intervals, one ride was really long like 84kms. After 60kms, my back was getting painful. Its little problematic but if ur a strong person, it wont be a problem.

Must take intervals. Its better for ur scooter and you.

I must say Access is really a good scooter. Its better in long rides. The sccoter`s engine doesn't show any lags in long rides.

ive done 220 kms at a stretch on my dio

with 15 mins break for lunch
and no stops between except 15mins !
and the bike performed well without any strain on engine and gave a mileage of 52 km/lts

and there was no back pain for me
except little fatigue due to hot temperature
