For performance, I have a big list. Its all limited to your own limits and money and time.
Yes fine, so lets add a performance exhaust also to the list. Removing the CAT is not the right approach. I'll be building one of my bike soon, probably the first R15 with a tuned exhaust on streets.

I'm talking about a proper performance exhaust. Not just farting around.

All I want is a more Honda'esque powerband, power right from the word go!

If not that atleaset a wider powerband.

But I guess this would make the bike loose out some of its performance, the catch here is that I wish that the change in powerband characteristics would in no way affect the overall performance.

Apart from that the bike is perfect in every sense!

A performance exhaust in a 4 stroke cant do wonders jus like chambers in 2 strokes right...?

^ wont do wonders, but can bump up the perf a lot. Other stuff like free flow filter, bigger jets, bumping up the compression ratio etc also help a lot.

O'Really Even just a chamber in the 2 stroke cant make wonder some things to be changed.. The thing is 2-stroke is a not so complex engine so changes required are minimal but 4-stroke engine is complex so requires more tweaking but not lot

The back pressure isn't as important but proper manifolds and a free flowing exhaust will ease the strain on the engine as the exhaust will flow out more easily .

Well what he said is in the general context. On 4-strokes. Any bikes can be carb'd or fuel injected.

To be honest, I was quite skeptical initially about this thread for I absolutely love every aspect of the R15 and am blown away with its performance every single time I ride it. In my opinion it is by far the best track tool in India and light years ahead in terms of technology when compared to its Indian counterparts.

So after reading some of the posts in this thread I felt that many R15 owners who complain about its poor low and mid-range (rather than focus on its power burst after 7000rpm) and small rear tyre (rather than appreciating their sticky characteristics that allow even amateurs to put their knee down) are either technically ignorant or just straight out greedy to be not satisfied with Yamaha.

However, before opening my mouth I decided to do some research (Thank God) to see if Yamaha Motors in the US, Europe and Australia offer any performance upgrade accessories. I was surprised to find that unlike Yamaha Motors India, performance upgrades like K&N air filters, Racing Sprockets, Steering Dampers, Bubble Screens, Special Free-flow exhaust and more were officially available at these international Yamaha Motor Group companies.

So I guess we are not being that greedy after all . So kudos to Joel for starting this interesting thread. Now if you ask me what extra bits I expected from the Yamaha guys for my R15, I could mainly think of just one important thing- Crash Bobbins. Although Yamaha have done a commendable job at keeping the cost of the fibre parts reasonable, they should defi provide crash bobs to protect the fairing during crashes. I have already spoken to the main regional manager at the Yamaha showroom- Wakdewadi, Pune in regards to the same.

I am the only one who is asking to make it a bit Larger as in wheelbase and width, along with some increase in power so that large guys like me dont look out of place on it

If i were one of you guys, then i will ask for a slightly wider wind screen and single seat (not the single seat cowl plastic thing).
