The Rise of the Underdog.. Unicorn Dazzler (Banshee !! The Wailing Spirit)
Well, This is probably going to be my longest post till now. (Considering that i haven't made many posts). I would request the Mods, to either remove my older post "Joel'ed Unicorn Dazzler" or do as they feel right.. Since this is going to be a completely new post, with all my mods.
So, her it goes:
It all began on Oct 8th 2010, Got my brand new Unicorn Dazzler, my first Bike.

Little did I know, that in 2.5 years, my Dazzler would transform into something beyond anyone's expectation.
I will skip all the smaller sections.. and will directly skip to the first mod that I had on my bike.
Like every newbie, it was a K&N RC1060.. (Installed at a Castrol Bike Zone) & also got the NGK Ix Spark plugs.
The feel was great. Sudden power.. was thrilled to see the change. But that was just the beginning. I started reading on forums & Googling stuff
, started going crazy. Within 14 days of the RC1060, I sold the K&N to a friend & got the R1100. The Sound had changed,
the power had changed. But no upjetting yet. Don't wanna discuss whether it was the right thing to do or not. Anyway.. here are few pics of the process..
Got the entire Airbox removed, since the R1100 conical filter, wouldnt fit directly. & I was not gonna cut my airbox.

Finally got it installed, after a few alterations with clamps.

Yup.. that worked. well for me. But that was not it. Decided to tamper a bit more with it. Installed a "Supposed FFE".. (one of my biggest mistake, since I actually cut the stock pipe to install the Canister) But heck, it was a learning curve

I was satisfied with the changes. Atleast till then.
Here's a video, after the above upgrades.
So, the feel was great. But the eagerness to get more, never stopped. Was pretty influenced by random ideas at that time. One of those ideas, was to just go ahead & get a bigger rear sprocket. So, just went & got a Hunk Sprocket (46/48 teeth, i don't remember). Got that installed.
Yes the bike was indeed jumpy..
felt like a pocket rocket. But only till 60-70kph.. later it felt like dragging a dead corpse.. on a treadmill, that was vibrating.
Oh well, something of that sort
The older sprocket, goes out:

New one goes in:

But, just within a few days.. this thing went out. Wasn't much interested in it, coz at 8000 rpm, the bike felt as if it was gonna fall apart :P
Realized, stock sprockets are the best, unless you go all out calculating stuff & getting custom sprockets :P or whatever..
More to come, The fun part is yet to start.sigpic

It doesn't make sense to have separate threads for the same topic, hence merged. It will give the readers a sense of continuity to know what you have done, what you are doing and what you are planning to do. All the best though

Before I say anything else.. I have a Noobish querry.
I attached a Video in my earlier Post, and its a Facebook Video (kept Public)...
I can't see the video in my post ..
reason??
Still, I will carry on with the story of my bike.
So after Shifting back to the stock sprockets, all was fine & going well. Then came the master of it all, JOEL. He was working on the 160cc Bigbore kit for the Dazzler.
Obviously, I was pretty darn interested in getting it. But the thing is, none of my mods have ever been via Dad's money (and will never be). I being a student, didnt exactly have a "Salaried Job" to get stuffs to my wish.
But, one thing I proudly say..I did odd jobs of Data Entry & Article Writing, whenever I got holidays from college. Worked my ass off, earned a decent amount & spent it all on my bike. Till now, all the above mods, were pretty minor. Was able to get them done, just by my savings.
1) K&N Rc1060- ₹1900 (Sold for ₹1500)
2) K&N R1100- ₹2600
3) NGK Ix- ₹550
4) Sprocket Set- ₹675
But now, it was the turn for the bigbore kit." ₹6500 ". So, got a part time job ₹50/hour
dataentry. And finally ordered the kit. To my amazement, I received the BB Kit, within 1.5 weeks. The quality craftman-ship, that indeed deserved Applaud.

Just within a day of receiving the Bigbore, bad luck struck.
I was preparing for the Entrance Exam for my Masters. Someone, tried to steal my K&N and in the process, damaged it.

The saddest part, I didnt have any money to spare for buying a new K&N.
But, no way was I gonna leave it to it. Again got back to some Article Writing. Got some moolah.. & was ready to get a new K&N. But by then, My bike was laying motionless @ My mechanics place. I had given my Cylinder Head, to my friends Brother, for some headwork (For free
). And it was in reliable hands, so had nothing to worry except his schedule. Due to his "Restoration" projects and his other commitments, it took him 20days to work on the cylinderhead. Well, anyway finally got it. Installed the Bigbore, new K&N, the cylinder Head & also Got the AutoCop remote lock.
(and yes it works great. Though removed now :P )
So, the bigbore was installed & things were going great. Did a 900km Run-in within a week, keeping the rpm's always under 5k. Mileage returned was shocking :P
I will just quote the section from my previous (first post).
As you read above, it was great fun.Originally posted by xtremevirus View PostGot the kit installed.. did a 900km running in, within 5 days.. just went out on cruising trips.. never went above 5k rpm.. when i touched 901.. i let the bike rip once.. ! within the 900kms the smoothness of the bike was literally noticable, but when i let it rip.. the bike's true identity was revealed..
The bike literally wants to be pull over the redline (sadly cant :P)
Took the bike to just 112.. no timings no nothing.. just took it to the speed.. Next day got the bike serviced & took it for a short 30km ride to an Empty Stretch..for the literal testing. Outcomes:
(with a 60kg rider)
0-100: Within 10secs
Top Whack: 131
Time for Top End: Approx 27secs
(with a 94kg Rider)
0-100: Within 12secs
Top Whack: 131
Time for top End: Approx 34secs
The bike is still running on Stock Carbs & Jets.. Planning for a bigger carb rather than Upjetting.. expecting to improve the bike's potential.
This was the ripping test.. so what about reliability?
Last Sunday, had a 410kms Trip.. 210 kms was general riding 60-90kph cruising.. approx 30-50 kms was Off-Roads or dirt trails or desert..and the last 140kms was total ripping..
Cruising, the bike rides like a breeze.. totally free !
Off-Road.. The bike's torque is crazy ass on lower gears..
The last ripping.. the bike was constantly riding at speeds between 95-117 kph with a pillion rider.. a combined weight of 94 + 58 kgs.. for 140 kms.. Yup the engine was damn hot.. but did it die after it was switched off.. Nope. It was still ready for more..
now, after the 160cc Bigbore, Headwork etc.

Re: The Rise of the Underdog.. Unicorn Dazzler (Banshee !! The Wailing Spirit)
So till now I had spent
1) K&N Rc1060- ₹1900 (Sold for ₹1500)
2) K&N R1100- ₹2600
3) NGK Ix- ₹550
4) Sprocket Set- ₹675
5) Exhaust- ₹1800
6) Bigbore 160cc- ₹6500 + shipping
7) 2nd K&N R1100- ₹2150 (Chor bazar zindabad
)
and, i was really satisfied with it all. Just until I realized, JOEL had introduced 180cc Kit, just within 1 month of my 160cc block. I literally felt like a test mule
.. but Stubborn I was. So.. Decided for it. and there wasnt any turning back. Saving & earning began again. Cost, the same.. (excluding shipping in both cases). I bought the Bigbore 160cc in Dec '11. Again started working in Jan. Earned for 2 months. Order placed @March '12.
This time there was a bit delay in getting the bore.
but.. i was willing / ready to wait. sadly, this time the quality / finishing was pretty messed up. But still, I was sure it wouldnt be much of an issue.
Here are the pics... the bottom finishing was kind of.. hmm.. Uneven

The top side:

Plus, the guys at the postal office, were pretty much throwing around the package i guess, coz : (check the pics)

Anyway, so it arrived.. and I got it installed. Installation wasn't exactly easy. Coz of the uneven finishing, the gaskets weren't exactly doing their work properly. At first trial, there was oil leak. Again the engine was opened & refitted. This time it didnt work either. Opened up third time, with some excess of Bond Tubing.. and yes it was done. Looked nasty though..

This time, finished the run-in, in 5 days. Got the bike serviced & ready. No video this time though. I was sure, my bike wasn't gonna change much at topend, as I could clearly feel that, the stock carb (without upjetting) and "Desi" exhaust that i had installed, were rather hampering my bike's performance. I did rip it, but didnt bother taking a video of acceleration. There was definitely far more grunt in the bike.
But, anyway.. here's a random vid, of Adalaj (lovely highspeed Corners).. with the same kit.
Yup.. it was fun, fast & awesome.Last edited by xtremevirus; 05-20-2013, 12:34 AM.sigpic

Re: The Rise of the Underdog.. Unicorn Dazzler (Banshee !! The Wailing Spirit)
This was not the end of it. I was having more fun each day. I was already reading too much about bike mods & performance upgrades. And was gaining more & more knowledge each day. Plus, I was interacting with some Technically sound people. Mainly Sudeep aka Xeno. So, decided to take things up a bit. Next in line, Cylinder Headwork from RC & Higherlift camshaft.
So, Time to save money again & do some data entry work.
My expenses till now:
1) K&N Rc1060- ₹1900 (Sold for ₹1500)
2) K&N R1100- ₹2600
3) NGK Ix- ₹550
4) Sprocket Set- ₹675
5) Exhaust- ₹1800
6) Bigbore 160cc- ₹6500 + shipping
7) 2nd K&N R1100- ₹2150 (Chor bazar zindabad
)
8) Bigbore 180cc- ₹6500 + shipping
After a few months, finally collected the amount & I sent over the items to Joel. I was pretty aware, Joel takes his own time to get things done. Hence, I sent him the stuffs, with an actual expectation of 30-40 days b4 i would get it back. For the same, I brought over my Trusted Mechanic Mr. Juned Shaikh to my home. (I will talk about him later, how good / great he is. & his ingenuity ) He removed the head, packed up my block & viola, the wait began.
So, it took exactly 44 days, for me to get back my stuff. But, "Excitement" was way too high to even care for how much time it took. This time, the work was perfect. Nothing exceptional about the cylinderhead, since it was just stage1 headwork; but the Camshaft.. Oh boy.. That was pure Eye Candy.
Sorry to say, but I got no pics of either of them. The Memory card which had those pics, got corrupted before I could even copy the pics.
But, all i will say is, it was worth every penny. So, yes.. the installation.
Everything went smooth this time. got it installed, and though run-in was not needed., i still decided to keep it steady for a few hundred kms.
When it was done. I was ready to rip.. (No vid again this time.. ) I was still on Stock Carb. I had tried the Karizma Carb, but that didnt work. Even tried the Karizma 125 sized jets to the stock Keihin CV. That didn't work Either. Was obviously low on budget. Had No money to go around trying carbs. But that was on the cards next up. Coz, the compression was pretty high now, and the bike would literally be begging for more fuel. Thankfully the tuning was gr8, due to my expert mech
So, lets talk about the outcome of the Camshaft & Headwork from RaceConcepts.
"TORQUE" was insane..
The way the bike was accelerating, was just bewildering.
Amidst all this, I had also changed my rear tire. I got the Dunlop Geo Cruiser. That was again a crazy experience. I first installed the Pilot Sporty, but that didnt work.. there was air leakage from the rims. Shifted to dunlop after a week. (free replacement)
Those tires are crazy ass heavy, but damn durable.

So, as you can see, been to some crazy Places with the bike. This is from Zanzari.
Also, the Dunlop's were really good at grip too. Here's a cornering pic:

Along with all these mods, I got something that at first seemed quite futile, but after getting it installed, I AM NEVER gonna get it removed.
It was a quick throttle setup. You really need to use one, to understand how sexy it works. The Throttle response, is beyond crazy.

Anyway, as i said, I don't have any acceleration videos after the CAM, headwork, and this quick throttle. But check this out.

Yes, The sound note will change far more, when I reach the end of this log
Well, brakes suck indeed. But I have no options. There are no direct swaps. But, I got the rear brakepads rebuilt with that compound (forgot name). It improves the braking.sigpic

Re: The Rise of the Underdog.. Unicorn Dazzler (Banshee !! The Wailing Spirit)
So, lets tally up the expenses again:
1) K&N Rc1060- ₹1900 (Sold for ₹1500)
2) K&N R1100- ₹2600
3) NGK Ix- ₹550 x 2 (had changed again)
4) Sprocket Set- ₹675
5) Exhaust- ₹1800
6) Bigbore 160cc- ₹6500 + shipping
7) 2nd K&N R1100- ₹2150 (Chor bazar zindabad
)
8) Bigbore 180cc- ₹6500 + shipping
9) CamShaft + Headwork- ₹7500
10) Tires- ₹1950
11) Quick Throttle- ₹1450 (Yes, chunna lag gaya tha.. got screwed :P )
Obviously, the biggest draw back was with My exhaust & Carb. I didnt exactly have much options. I had a talk with joel many a times, but it is not exactly feasible for him to create just 1 exhaust for Dazzler. He needed Batch orders. Dazzler, isnt exactly the bike that is used for Mods, by many in India
So, I looked for other options. Got stuck.. at r9Racing Generation. Heard the sound of that exhaust. Decided, that is it..
This was my biggest goal. This time, I had decided. I will get this bike done. Completely. Carb, Exhaust.. both. Not one by one. Costs, were far too high, since exhaust was to be imported from Indonesia. But I had made up my mind.
I started working again, @DataEntry. Thankfully, coz of my experience, plus the no. of dataanalysis & data entry projects that I had worked earlier with. I was getting payed High this time. (₹100 / hour) .. and I was also allowed to work from home. Over a period of 45 days... i nearly worked 7 hours each day. Yes, it hampered my studies, health, socializing.. and a lot more. But i was dead set on getting those stuff. It wasn't crazyness, but I had a lot of attachment to my bike, and it literally is the reason I got out of a lot of emotional shit. I always feel, it was way to give back.. and also to re-introduce thrill in my life. Worked my ass off, So I ended up doing 292 hours of work. Cha-Ching!!! Now, i just had to wait to get the payment.
By the amount that I had collected up, I knew, I could get a few more stuffs. So started thinking over it. It was obvious that, whatever I would order from Indonesia, I would be paying a lot of shipping & later on Customs. (not revealing any details regarding customs, have paid, but how much & all.. stays under table)
SO, I finalized the following:
1) R9 Mugello Exhaust for MegaPro (Same bike, different Name)
2) BRT CDI (Bintang Racing Team)
3) Protec Racing Coil
4) 9power Current Amplifier
these were the stuffs to be ordered from Indonesia. Remained the Carb, which was decided to be worked out here. So, next up.. how to make the payments. Paypal India, is pretty screwed up, unless you have a Credit Card. (which i Don't). Somehow, found a collegemate, who had a Paypal Account. Made the payments. Had to pay for the ₹ - $ conversion as well, plus some processing fee that was charged. All in all, I ended up paying in excess of ₹28000 for the above mentioned Parts, customs & misc stuff for making the payment.
The wait for shipping of products, wasnt really much. It was pretty fast. But the issue happened at the Customs Dept. They witheld the package. They had sent out a letter, which I never received. I went to the post office, inquired.. got that letter. Went to the Customs office, showed them a reciepet, Did the needfull.. and finally got the package. This above procedure took 4 days itself. Plus the courier had taken 17 days . So a total of 21 days after the payment.. I got all the stuff. But.. The wait was.. oh well, as always..WORTH IT !! (Oh yes, block letters this time
)

lets put up a teaser. What say?

We all share the same passion for our bikes ..
Well, since I am at my internship & I don't have access to the images / vids. I can't continue with the write up right now, but there is something I would like to share.
I wrote something, with myself, biking & us bikers in context...
A poem called.: "I Ride"
Yes, I ride, just to ride again;
I live to ride, to ride till the end.
Till the end is when I see, death to my face;
I'll keep on riding, till life has no trace.
Life brings in troubles, just to test my will;
I retaliate back, with gasoline in my bill.
A corner & a straight, is all that I'll ever need;
Mere mortals will never see this, coz to them I just bleed.
To them it's a deathwish, but aren't they Blind?
To me it's just the best way, to rest & unwind.
Danger does follow, wherever I may go;
But why live through a window, smaller & narrow.
While I ride I'm free, not bound to many;
Just bound to my bike, without the fear of any.
But I am never alone, I am never dreary;
Coz "I The Biker", we are too many.

I hope you guys like it

Re: The Rise of the Underdog.. Unicorn Dazzler (Banshee !! The Wailing Spirit)
I guess my writeup is either pretty boring..
or This thread itself, lacks interest to most..
Anyway, I am gonna keep on sharing.
So, As I said in my earlier post.. the wait was WORTH IT. Now as I had all my parts, what I lacked again was money. I had the money to get things installed, get a proper service / tuneup done.. but nothing left for the carb. But, things unfolded themselves. You will learn a lot more about it as I speak.
The process of the final up-gradation started. Out came the old Exhaust:

In went the New one.

Also got the Remote lock system removed (Autocop)

Next up, Change the CDI & the Ignition Coil.. Replace them with BRT CDI & Protec Coil.

That person, Mr. Juned Shaikh. My mechanic.. Awesome human being..
With all that done, now the only remaining stuff was the Carb.

Now let me begin narrating the toughest part of the job. "The Perfect Carb".
We began directly with a Karizma Carb .. Plonked it in, put the k&N.. and tried the tuning. Nope.. it didnt work.
Next up, we tried a Refurbished Enfiled 500 carb.. that was working fine, except 1 part.. on leaving the throttle, the revs were not dropping that easily. And, considering the already weak brakes of Dazzler, it was too darn risky. We changed it out as well.
Finally we tried a carb, which was actually an import from Taiwan, 2stroke Carb (For RD350).
Here's a pic of teh Enfiled Carb & the 2Stroke Carb

Check out the video, to hear the sound of the bike, after this Carb..
Well, the carb tuning was just awesome.. but the issue was with Starting the bike. Dazzler, Doesn't have a kickstart
For some reason, this carb (2stroke one).. was not allowing the bike to start easily. Nearly 10-12 cranks on a cold engine. Which wasn't exactly a gud thing. But the performance was literally crazy. The bike would literally shoot off..
So, we decided to try the carb for a day or two.
Got the bike Washed.. Polished

and took her home.
