  • Yamaha Motorbike - High Maintenence Cost

    Friends,

I made a mistake and bought a Yamaha Gladiator RS125. I have been using it for last 4 years. It is eating my money.

Last week I did 16th paid service from a Yamaha dealer in Cochin called PSN Yamaha. It cost me Rs.5646 . Here I have attached the soft copy of bill.

Every time I have suffered a lot with their labour charges. This time it was too cruel that they charged me Rs. 2978. Comparing to other manufacturer like Honda, Hero MotoCorp, TVS, Suzukhi these guys charge three times higher labour.

    Example:
Yamaha Chain Sprocket Kit (See bill) cost Rs. 1193 (+Rs. 300 labour)
Hero MotoCorp cost Rs. 800 (+Rs 100 labour)

Will you believe if I say the Yamaha chain showed rust in 6 days. Leave it anyway

I did complain this to Yamaha people. They registered a complaint IC012537 for the same. A lady called me back and said they are not responsible for labour charged by dealers.

Jesus Christ had to walk with a big wooden cross, may be he wants me to follow him with this piece of shit from Yamaha.

Try with a different ASC next time; may be this is an issue only with PSN. Try Shinrai or someone.

Apart from low mileage over priced servicing is also a big turn off for people buying a new bike. So we get to see so low Yamaha sales. Combine to that the overpriced products and the things get even worse. My team-mate owns an FZ-S and he paid Rs.800 in the *free* servicing at Bangalore (engine-oil changed). At almost half the price a unicorn is serviced. And Bajaj is the best considering the service cost thing.
I owned Caliber earlier for 11years and with its high mileage and so low service cost I saved alot of money when I was a student.

PS - Yamaha fans pls dont jump upon me. Thats my personal experience . No exhagerration intended.
        Whats there in a signature?

I don't buy that point!!! Rs 800, if you say combined with engine oil + filter & any other consumables sounds fine. Even then, its freaking more than what we paid for our CBR 250R; Hardly about Rs 800, engine oil, Rs 545 & engine oil filter about Rs 250, incl of taxes.

If its just an engine oil change then he got looted. Find out the costs before going to the SVC, so that you can catch them for an overcharge or just change your SVC.

On the contrary my bike is virtually maintenance free. 20000 kms & 2.5 years of ownership. The only maintenance it required was oil change & chain lub. It did had some issue with the engine but that was sorted out in warranty. & the rest expenses were for my wrong doings . Like it costed me 4k for getting the fairing & meter fixed after a crash etc.

Well the issue you are saying is not related to the bike but it is about the service center. Am amazed that the warranty period of the bike is over & still you are getting your bike serviced from an yamaha dealer. It would be wisest that you change it & goto a reliable mechanic nearby for service etc. Goto the yamaha dealer only when you require any spares for your bike. Thats the rule i follow &would suggest you too the same. Dunno why but i have found that most of the service centers are costlier than the roadside mechs.

Well bro this is INDIA . So you have to be alert. Not only on roads but even outside home . If it has been charged rs.800 for just engine oil change in a free servicing then obviously your friend is cheated. Just tell your friend that he is way too honest or rather naive .
And this depends on the service center rather than on the company. So blaming the company wouldnt be wise.
NOT BEEN THERE NOT DONE THAT

You really need to change your service center. Another good practice with good service centers are estimates. Try getting it before you give your bike for servicing. If the labor looks as high as this, just move on to another one.

If you saw rust in 6 days, you had all the right to ask for a replacement under warranty. Did you try negotiating for a change ?

Part Number | Item | Charges
                90793AD40300 | Engine Oil, 15W50 (Semi Synthetic) | 470
                90793AD40300 | Engine Oil, 20W40 (Mineral) | 270
                * | Labor charges | 50 at the max for an oil change only. My SVC does not even charge at times.

Can you please ask your team mate to elaborate on how he ended up paying 800 for an oil change ? Did he go for Fully Synthetic Oil Change on the FZ-S ? If yes, he is paying the price for a more expensive option which sounds reasonable else the dealer is duping him for labor charges. Looking forward to your reply.

The Title cannot be justified, the issue is with your Service center. In Chennai all Service centers have a detailed list of work vs labor cost for all Yamaha bikes and they charge the same.

Recently changed my R15's chain sprocket and they charged me 190Rs for labor and a Bore/piston change will cost 550Rs (Which is reduced for 700 on chart)

This weekend I will take a picture of the list and upload here.

I would say Yamaha parts cost and labor cost is lesser or on par to other Manufacturers and the quality is the best that you can get.

I've paid Rs.850 for my first free service. My bike is R15 and I always service it at Bangalore Wheels. Yes. The labor cost is too high in Yamaha service stations. Recently i changed my bike's Chain set and it costed me Rs.3000 whole. (inclusive of labor).
A crash on d road may kill d biker n d bike, but d relationship btwn d bike n d biker never dies.

Its only next to d relationship btwn d mother n her baby.

I also paid 840 for my second free service and here is the break up.

                      Engine Oil, 15W50 (Semi Synthetic) | 470
                      Oil Filter | 167
                      Chain Lubrication | 135
Coolant Oil Top Up | 65

No Labor Charges. Coolant Oil Top Up was done at my request. Chain lubrication was done only after being asked which I could have avoided since I do it myself but just to complete the whole servicing I agreed to it.

I can put the scanned image of the bill if required. What I am trying to tell you is that labor charges is not uniform.
