  • Do you tip your mechanic at authorized service station?

I get my bike serviced from Adarsh Yamaha and I am more than satisfied from their servicing. However, there are times when I think I should tip the mechanic who has put in some real good work in my machines. But then, looking into the amount of VAT (now 20% :O) and service charges (12.5%) that they put in my bill, makes me think if I am spending too much on one servicing.

In last servicing, tax alone (VAT+service charges) was one-third of my total Rs.1500 bill which I was not expecting.

I did pay Rs.50 to the mechanic anyway though, b'coz he really serviced my R15 well.

I generally don't; but incase if I nag him for perfection for long, yes, I do then.

Same here. I don't tip the mechanic unless I've pestered him to look into and fix all my niggling issues.
You are not a chemical. So think before you react.

i consider service charges/ labour charges as the tip for them...no need to pay extra...looking at the way they treat the vehicles(at Honda especially)...to top it u have to pay VAT and service tax or those service charges...

I tip in case i am giving my RX135 for service, since the mechanic does some juggad (lathe work) to fix the problems. But in case of my R15 i dont/wont give, since there is no extra work involved.

Never tipped ! i take my P 220-DTS-Fi to Probiking-Vizag for service/repairs, those guys are soo good, they even fix some minor repairs/adjustments which are not mentioned in the job card.

I always tip. Not because those guys expect it, infact they always refuse to take any money. But I tip those guys, with the same reason I tip in a restaurant or the barbers.

If they refuse to take any money then I buy a 2 litre bottle of Pepsi, some Samosas or ciggies.

My bike always gets perfect treatment in the SVCs

At the authorized service centers is more replacement than repair that happens. You rarely get a repair job done, they pretty much replace parts not functioning. So i don't feel the need of the "tip". Its like going to McD and tipping, there is no service involved. Just my opinion.

I don't go to a ASC, but tip my local mechanic on minor jobs, but bargain on the major repairs.

I am paying for labour charges man, why should I tip extra? I already paid him? Besides I am not particularly happy with the job they always do!

Its the same funda which I hold for restaurants and waiters. If the service is good I will tip. But only if the restaurant does not add a "service charge" on my bill. Otherwise I have already paid for the good service, why pay extra? If the service is bad then forget it already! And in most Honda Service Centers, the service is not good as far as has been my experience!
