  • Unwelcome Idiots Sitting on YOUR Bike

This thread is partly a rant and partly to raise an issue.

I love my bike, and so does everyone else in this forum. My bike is an extension of my personality, apart from being a means of commute and a source of entertainment and a lot more. IMO a bike is like a detachable limb. Detachable or not, I would NEVER like anyone unwelcome touching it.

Problem is that everywhere I see, people give no respect to other's bikes. Once I left my bike parked at a friend's apartment parking lot and on my way back I noticed that a bunch of kids were sitting on a few bikes including mine like they're a chair or something. The other day I left my bike parked for an hour and I noticed that someone had messed around with the gear lever. People seem to enjoy turning random knobs around for the fun of it on someone else's bike.

In my case, I ride a rather modest 1999 Suzuki Samurai and its mechanicals are easy to fix and spares are cheap so I am not too worried. But that is no excuse for someone to treat parked bikes like government property.

Some of my friends who ride more expensive bikes face this sort of trouble a lot more often. When someone sees superbikes or exotics like the Duke or RE Classic Chrome parked outside they see it as their fundamental right to sit on it and "get a feel" without any regard for its owner.

I once saw a female idiot pestering her male idiot companion to take a photo of her sitting on a Silver CBR250R that was parked at a mall. Dumb ***** caused the CBR to fall.

Is there a solution for this nuisance ?

Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

I wouldn't mind people sitting on my bike but i really hates it when they touch the painted parts when bike is dirty causing swirl marks, Once i fired at a guy who was using his bike key to scratch the speedometer while talking in phone(Why don't he do that on his bike??)
I would prefer shorter nails for people sitting on my bike

I think not only someone unwelcome can do that, once I was on the balcony at my home at 2nd floor and my bike was parked just down stares, suddenly a runner cow came hit my bike very hard(Unintentional) and my bike fall down to ground, A side mirror was broken and got some scratches, but that leg guard was saved my bike lot to fall down completely.

From that day when i parked my bike anywhere i use to park her where road or way gets end or close and about the people I don't even allow anybody to sit on my bike when bike is on side or central stand, Its stand is made for to lift the wait of bike only not that much with a person....

That line is hilarious! LOL!! But seriously, yup this is a real issue.

I don't know if there is any solution to this. I normally don't park in crowded places. If I have to visit a place with poor parking facilities then I take the car. Sounds counter-intutive but its better than taking my extinct species (RX) get something damaged by these morons and then run-around fixing it.

P.S: Few weeks back there was a bunch of freshers joining us and they meted out the same treatment to my RX135 This seems to be genetic.

I never used to be worried about people sitting on my bike or leaning on it till a couple of months back.. I've had a HH Splendor for 7 years, a Honda Unicorn for about 7 years now and now I own a KTM Duke 200. Everywhere I go people flock to it, especially when it's parked. They have the urge to sit and pose while their compatriot takes a snap on my bike. The worst part is that when they realize it's my bike and am walking towards them or giving them a stern look, they raise their index finger along with their thumb.. gesticulating "Sir, 1 Photo please" with pleading eyes... and most of them don't know to treat the bike properly...

I've had a couple of scratches on the tank cowl ( have covered it with a tank pad now)... I don't take it out to places where he's out of sight .. At a mall in chennai, I noticed that a security guard was sitting on a chair close to my bike, to ward off unwanted guys... that was nice of him and he didn't accept any tips... from then on, I have stopped taking it to crowded plaes .. Either I go in my Unicorn or in an Auto..

I do have a Xena lock, however that seldom has any effect because some guys start playing with it just to hear that alarm... they shake the handle bar and run away

                I don't love your bike

Seriously, I feel for you mate, I have the same problems with my 2011 FZ-200 (FZ-S 200cc engine kit)
Living in Vietnam everywhere you go is scooters.
Parking can be a nightmare however usually on a motorbike or luxury/expensive scooter you have certain areas reserved for them.

I had got these new mirrors one time. They looked like Rizoma tommok's.
I parked it in the mall in the reserved section only to come out and find my mirrors had been tampered with.
These mirrors were made from aluminium with stainless hex head screws to lock in the final adjustment so it doesn't move (anymore)
Some idiot had decided to come and sit on my bike and adjust the mirrors for them. They ended up breaking the mirror.

Theres also a lot of cultural differences. (western Vs vietnamese) Some people don't give a fvck about other peoples property. I regularly see people picking their nose and squeezing pimples, blackheads (its a national sport here in VN) using other peoples bikes as chairs and the mirrors.

Only thing you can try is to put a bike cover on it. Keep it under wraps so to speak.

it doesn't work well in all cases.
Much effective and cheaper alternative is bike cover. Just cover your bike whenever you park.

                      - when some *** intentionally poke your bike to trigger alarm.
                      - bike is parked in a distant place from where owner can't listen to the alarm
                      and likewise cases.

That can also happen with a bike parked in covers; though there wouldn't be sound, there could be larger mishaps done silent. We're talking about psycopaths. How many of them have you encountered? I haven't even one in last few ten thousands of Kms.

If such things were to be prevented, then we wouldn't be riding out bikes; the idea is to AVOID as much as possible.

Cover cannot generate sound, cover cannot attract the crowd. Even if the owner is not around, someone else hears.

I've WITNESSED several times my bike was spared & someone else's was at target because mine made noise, so ppl moved away.

Hmm.. My bike always stayed 'clean' under cover and so for my dad. That's why said so.
Now you made me think about using both, cover & alarms!

I never gave this a thought. At home it stays inside gate perimeter so no one touches it. At college we have security gaurd stationed at bike lot so no one tampers with bike i.e taking petrol or damaging others bikes around. At public places too I see no one is interested in basic bikes like ours, its always those R15v2 and CBR that get attracted and its really not possible for you to cover those up like when you go for meal to a resturant, or park it on road while you are shopping. I always find clean alley little away from general population to park
There are no short-cuts to any place worth going. So ride safe when you are treading uncharted roads.

This is one reason that im not taking my new bike much outside. Aside from sitting, in parking lots few morons never care about their bike and they park by hitting the parts of our bike. Even in my own flat, people used to sit on my Dio all time. Even children are ok,but some bachelors is sitting on my vehicle which makes me angry.
