This should not be a competition between who can run their tyres threadbare, that is endangering your life.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Have been reading a lot about tyre change, types, benefits etc off lately as my car is due for a tyre change.

This is what I learnt -

In many countries it is banned to drive your vehicle if the tyre depth reaches below a certain level (1.5 mm or so..)

But so is the tubeless tyre plug which we use for puncture repair.

I would provide my tyre's pic here when I change it, but it would look fairly new. I wont take any chances with brakes and tyres in anyway.

Also Tyre manufacturers ask you to change the tyre after a specific time on the road. i.e if you have a 10 year old car and not driving it still you should change the tyre irrespective of its tread. Different manufacturers ask you to change your tyres based on age/mileage. 6-8 years is good enough time to go for a change. And there are tread indicators on the tyres which are a good indicative of the tyre's remaining usable life.

In all circumstance, there is tread remaining on the tyre before it should be replaced!

Soft compound tyres like IRC, Pirelli nd Bridgestone u need to change them before 10k kms. They look new bt u start losing grip while braking. You should avoid exceeding ur actual tyre size, i did it on my p220 and i could feel it getting tough on corners, jerks were more than the stock, and because i was using a wrong tyre size, controlling was a bit difficult, though the mileage increased beacuse of its light weight. I used 140-70 r 17 & 110-70 r 17 in front.

how come it losses grip even if still there is enough tread there. i have always heard that soft compound tires gets puncture alot.

i have started this thread so that new riders will get upto what level they should use tire and when there is need to change the tire to save themselves from tire blasting/ accidents cos of tire skid.

Soft compounds wear out very fast. Tread pattern doesnt really help in getting grip on tarmac, the problem is the rubber surface itself degrades since it is so soft. If you look at MotoGP slick tyres, they have zero treads

I have used Pirelli MT75 which was superb for first 5k kms. It slowly started degrading with time and by 10k I changed it. Even though it had good amount of treads, I had no confidence in corners at all and also it would happily fishtail when braked hard. Will post the pic once I go back home

It went bald @ 10K. Tyres out of stock in BLR for the next 2 months, so just bald'ed it more

PS: I don't do burnouts, they went bald out of trying to transmit torque

Only if you live on race track you will wear out the outer edges of a tyre.

What is the tyre pressure you normally maintain. I think you are over inflating your tyre. Better to stick to the norms.

                          Cheers

When I first looked at the pic, the bald vyde looked like a SBK tyre I am guessing it is because of the camera. It has that wide angle effect. Maybe that's why accuengineer thought it was over inflated.
