  • Bajaj Avenger 220 Vs Pulsar 220

    Hi,

I'm trying to find what differentiates the power/torque delivery between a Pulsar 220 and Avenger 220 Engine.

They have the exact same bore x stroke spec as per manual. I understand that power to weight ratio, Rear Tyre, Wheelbase, different exhausts are all players, but loss of 2PS of power and almost 2Nm of Torque wouldn't go without any engine tuning.

I also read that manufacturers quote Power/Torque at the crank, not at the wheel. So the 2PS/2Nm at crank should be attainable ???

I was told that the difference in power/torque between a Avenger 220 and Pulsar 220 is due to the Ignition System. Any one has any reliable info on this?

To replace the ignition system with a Pulsars, what all would've to be changed apart from the CDI ? What about the Reed Assembly, Magento Ignition Coil??

Any help on this topic is appreciated.

    Thx, Subbu

      Thanks for the Approval!!

Tagging @abhijeet080808. Saw an awesome CDI thread by you, hope you don't mind and could help with this. What would be the cons if I were to swap just the CDIs and what could go bad or good?

      EDIT:
Just found these machines use different carburetors (forgot A220 has no autochoke). The P220 uses a UCAL UCD 32 carburettor and the Avenger uses a Mikuni BS29... got these from the internet, so not sure how accurate they are....

Is the autochoke function confined to the working of the carb, or does it depend/plug into the CDI too???

I was wondering.. if Pulsar 220 and Avenger have the same engines.. what tuning we can do to Avenger to bring it at par with Pulsar 220? Is it the carb, or Silencer or anything internal? I was wondering if I could get the same performance as P220.
Experts please put some light on it..

If you want to upgrade to 21bhp, change the head to a 220 dtsi one with valves n camshaft. Change the carb to a 32mm one. Ignition shd be changed as well.

And for god's sake get your basics right. At least know the difference between a 2stroke and a 4stroke engine before you go on attempting or posting about modding.

Was that reply intended to me? because the reply was totally out of context.

A nursery student shd not come to give a matriculation exam.. Simillarly a person who does not even understand the most basic of motorcycle tech should not even bother about modifying an engine.. First he should learn everything he can on his own. Then ask questions. Being gentle and spoon feeding are different things.

We are all adults here. I didn't say don't correct him, I'm just saying don't put him down while doing so. Isn't XBHP a brotherhood of bikers? We all entered this Forum will less or half knowledge. How will this forum be a good environment for learning if we correct everyone in a rude manner?

I'm pretty sure there are things that we all think is correct which is actually wrong. We will never know unless we put our views forward and someone corrects them.

You got me wrong brother... Yes, I am harsh with my words.. But it is practical.. People learn in stages.. The thread starter should atleast make some effort from his side to learn before starting a thread asking for help regarding something which he has absolutely no understanding of.

The thread starter has made an effort by opening this thread, shouldn't we be encouraging him? I understand your frustration with people constantly mouthing off like they know how everything works and our first reaction is to be rude. Just a life lesson I have learned, you can be practical and harsh or practical and gentle. Both get the message across but one way is easier to listen to and one way makes it more difficult.

                              Hello friends wonderful topic,
i am riding an A220 for 2 years and the only thing i felt not good was the bikes 5th gear does not felt like a 5th gear at all. felt something was restricting it between 80 and 110 kmph. i am not bothered about crossing 110 kmph, just want to know how to make it feel nice between 80 and 110 kmph. if someone could guide us to overcome this difficulty it will be a great help for us (the A220 owners).

What could be the cost to replace the Head with valves and Camshaft, carb and ignition. does the timing chain need to be changed....and what if i am only changing Head with valves and camshaft.

Is that Rev limit of A220 is less than that of P220.

Or any possibility to replace the 5th gear of A220 with P220's to make it some what relaxed than the stock.

                              thanks.
