How much will the KTM Duke 390 end up costing us as a daily ride? Inputs from existing Duke 200 owners are very welcome on this front, since they already have experience on this front. I'm not considering the fuel costs, but I'm definitely curious to know how the service, engine oil costs, etc are like. The Metzelers are likely to constitute a fair chunk, so any pointers to that as well will be appreciated. Assume that the bike will run around 40 kms on an average per day. Thanks.

I think the only difference between the running costs of Duke 200 and 390 will be the fuel, since the 390 shares most of the parts of the 200. And regarding the tires, well it depends whether you want to go for Metzelers or settle with something else. The Main thing would be the tyres. They would cost you 21k a pair - for roughly about 10,000 Kms. Rest i feel would be much cheaper.Photo Gallery[/B]Comment

21k is a fair chunk of moolah, but the grip it offers is worth paying for I guess. Any idea about components like clutch plates? This would be using a heavier set of clutch plates than the 200? I hope you are not one of those who are planning to buy a 40+ bhp bike and expecting a mileage of 60 kmpl?
The FE will be in the range of 25-35 kmpl based on what i have come to know.
Besides the tires, i think the overall ownership will be pretty reasonable as compared to Ninja 300 as all parts are locally manufactured and all vendors are based in Pune, Maharashtra.

Not really, shv18. That's why I clearly mentioned not factoring in the cost of fuel. Besides, I've owned an RE and had a short term caretaker role for an RD 350 in the past. The neighbourhood petrol pump guys love my bikes. I intend to keep it that way :-))
By the way, I heard today that a set of Metzelers is expected to cost Rs 25K. Any of you guys have any inside dope on that?Ride more, browse less.Comment

Yes 21k or 25k is a huge amount but the confidence it give while entering into corner is amazing!!
wait for some time we might get alternative. But don't go for continental I have in my cbr 250 and its awefull, n IRC doest work well in rains.
so my point is paying 21k for the tyres is cheaper than the medical bills if one go for cheaper alternative.It takes more love to share the saddle than it does to share the bed.Comment

1.5l Advised to change every 3,000kms. Heard it comes with motul one which costs 1,200rs from my dealer.

On the Duke 390 thread nomad said that the manual specifies 5000 km for oil changes. First oil change at 1000 km and then every 5000 kms.Ride more, browse less.Comment

I am not even sure about the quantity, 1.2l for the 200 and 1.5l for the 390? The 390 engine looks very big in a side by side comparison. I doubt 1.5l it is. Shoukd be more.
Which dealer did you enquire from? Looks like he himself has no clue as nomad clearly wrote about 5k as the mentioned service intervel, written in the manual.

Bangalore Btm guy. He was confident on the 1.5l though. Ofcourse he could be mistaken. But the engine size is not linearly related to the oil capacity right ?

Engine oil doesn't matter much because now a days people are used to RE's ..IMO tyres are the only ones that chops the pocket others will be reasonable enough
