"Crash Guard" I thought in Layman's term anyone could understand it. Yes they save your legs. Who would want a 120-140degree engine crushing your leg?

It doesnt come with a guarantee. Its always the way you fall, there have been times when I fell and nothing but just the leg guard scratched and other times rear body panel was scratched

Again, it depends how you are crashing and believe me no one plans how to crash.

Are you serious? In that case companies should stop using metals in engines and make them of card-boards

P.S : If one is talking about 200NS or Duke's Crash guards, it would be little different but yes, anything is better than nothing

I have the Cobra case guards and they don't scrape for me. I have not lowered my bike though. Plus they work with my spike intakes.

Crash Guard(popularly known as - leg guard): Does they really work??

To begin with, I am having a Karizma R 2011 which is fitted with a crash guard of Hero Hunk in it.
The question appeared in my mind when I have already disposed my crash guard fitted in my Karizma 2011.
I am quite confused whether to fix it again or not because I felt that the crash guard would not withstand the impact above 50kmph or may be even less.
I can fix heavy sturdy crash guards for sure, but that would further increase the weight of the motorcycle. Certainly I am having some psychological impact while riding without a crash guard, but even if I use one, I too have doubt on the effectiveness of the crash guard.

Is there any aftermarket sturdy but lightweight crash guard is available or any modifications/fabrication anybody has done. Or, I should be cool without a crash guard?

Re: Are crash guards/bars really safe?

i believe the crash guard is meant to take the first impact and reduce the impact force on the body(potentially life saving). Yes it does save the engine but again whenever you fall the engine does not get hit directly because of its placing and most of the times its the handle bar, footpegs, body panels, the headlamps which take the hit(plus the human!!!).

In my case, the crash guard has saved me from many injuries( i mean fractures) and also saved my bike from any serious damage. Hope your confusion is resolved.
