  • SBK mishap...almost

    hey everybody

If you are a biker....which all of you probably are, you probably know how it feels when someone/something hits your bike. In my case...it was my new R6.
I was out for lunch yesterday and was stopped at a cross street, waiting to take a right to merge on to the main street, when this huge ford pick up pulled up behind me. He stopped behind me. As i was looking for on coming traffic, this moron decided he could sneak that "behemoth of a piece of trash" he was driving right by me. Since the cross street was at a slight grade, he gassed the truck and it lurched forward and rear ended me. He hit my rear tire and scratched my left indicator. The rear tire now has a gash thanks to his metal bumper. The gash thankfully is almost on the tire thread. So it wasnt too bad. Can still ride with out problems. I cant stop thanking the almighty above....had i not been holding my front brakes....he would have pushed me in to on coming traffic and i would have certainly had to say bye to a few bones and my beloved SIX.

I was shocked and scared that all i could think of was, god please let it not be the faring or the swing arm....thankfully it wasn't. Anyway i just completed 600 miles on the bike, so its 1st servicing is due. Will get her all checked out this weekend.

    What i learnt from this?
You can never be completely safe...at least in the US with stupid morons on the road. And when ever you are at a stop.....put both your feet down....this is more important for all you SBK owners out there. Will help you from low siding it in case someone hits you.....these bikes are heavy..so you need all the support you need to keep it from being laid down...
2nd.....hold on to your front brakes...... i would be dead meat now, if i hadnt....
3rd....riding gear...how ever hot or uncomfortable it might be....screw your thinking and just wear gear.
4th.....when you get a SBK...get frame sliders......i dint....luckily i dint pay for not getting them....i am ordering them right now....

    Lastly.....ride safe......and dont stop dreaming.....

    Peace Out

Thank you Carlitos ... BTW A Married college friend of mine lives in Chandler.

Good suggestions given, but I though only India had this Poser Inc. I mean, we do hear about this in India, but in US? Damn!

We have about maybe 20-50 members with SBKs and I'm sure they ride safe & they can take cues from this narrated experience. Although, of course, some suggestions ar common for all bikes, not just Sbks.

Wishing you all the best for future & ride Safe.

Well i'm surprised there are boneheads in America too, i thought it was just here that people get paranoid when someone is ahead of them

@ Puneet1 ...Its not about how delhi traffic would be for me....driving in the US is a whole different ball game. Sure there are rules, but for every 2000 cars or maybe more...there is one biker. So people arnt used to looking out for bikers.
Driving in traffic in india is chaotic but the speeds are low too...plus there are more people on bikes....so drivers know to look out for bikers...they dont have to try..its natural....
Where as here......its unusual for them....and speeds are high....streets have speed limits of 45 MPH....about 75kmph...so when some jacko hits you or hits his brakes....its all the more difficult to get out of a potential crash....sure its not as chaotic like back home.......but its not easy at all.
90% of my friends here tried hard to convince me from getting a bike, because its thought of as a hazardous thing....the crash stories freak you out...

@leon_nerd nah man i dint get his license plate....i was worried about any damage to the bike..and the jacko left....i should have though.....

this wud not have happened in india becoz if u pull up at a signal u will a bunch of people cowding around you asking MILEAGE KYA HAI? and passing their judgment how u waste money that can feed a family of ten..and the car moron wud have avoided seeing the crowd and even in passing wud have said my car cost less and seats more..
point to be noted: u are safer on a SBK in India than abroad
Why is the man who invests all your money, called a broker?

                            @carlitos

good to hear that both u n ur baby are safe from anything serious....

                            I liked all ur suggestions...

many people have spoken about the delhi traffic....since I am also from delhi wud love to add few more things...
first anyone will ram into ur bike from anyside anytime...everyone is blind n especially the pedestrians as they feel that bikers will stop thinking safety for themselves n they think that they own the road...

secondly..i dun understand what is the problem of people(both cars and bikes) while waiting for signal...2-3days back one of the car guy was again n again touching the rear of my bike first i thought it wud have been a mistake however he was doing it again n again then i was forced to yell at him..then he realised today the same happened with a bike guy guess he was blind ....or all these people are jealous of my p220
