hey Carlitos... glad to know you are okay...

Here in the US, incidents like this are not that frequent as in India, but they can be scary as the speeds are too high...usually accidents result in serious injury if not death...A lot of my friends chided me for getting a bike here... specially my doctor friends, because the only bikers they see are the one lying in front of them for medical treatment.

One of the main reasons that the cagers give after an accident is that they did not see the bike. As you pointed out, they are not expecting to see the bike on the road....moreover, specially in the East coast, we do not get to ride at all during winters(its 5 deg F here today), bikers go crazy when spring comes and almost every day 1 or 2 bikers die here in accidents....

I've had a couple of incidents with me:
A couple of years ago, I was returning from work on my Ninja, on a two-way street, an oncoming car turned left, right in front of me, (probably did not see me or misjudged the speed)... I almost bogged in my pants I thought this is it...but thankfully the MSF training saved my hide... downshifting & a little swerving and I missed being postered on the car trunk by a couple of inches...

About 4 years ago, I was returning from work again, this time in my car... a Triumph Speed Triple passed me at high speed and I followed just to check it out. Then the bike took the same exit that I had to take... but the exit ramp was downhill and quite steep that the bike was out of my sight....meanwhile, on the ramp, there was a disabled car that had all the traffic stopped....I took the ramp at the same speed that I was following the bike to catch up with it... and suddenly I see the bike standing still...right in front of me ... I swerved to the right and braked hard and stopped right next to the bike but unfortunately scratching the bike's muffler(silencer) and bending the its left foot pedal & rear brake pedal....The biker was shaking when we pulled over and got so confused that he thought his gear pedal was bent.... I calmed him down and escorted him to his home and later paid for the replacement part...

so these are the only two bike related incidents with me in the last few years....

Carlitos... I hope you took the MSF basic rider course for your license... If not I would strongly suggest you to take it. Even though we have driven bikes in India, there is a lot that we can still learn, since the conditions are different. If you have, you know what I am talking about....

Then once you are comfortable with your bike, take the MSF Experienced Rider Course. Almost every responsible biker here takes & retakes this training course every 3-4 years... they are a great help in sharpening your skills....

I envy you man... you get to ride year-long... I still have two months before I get on the road.....

        Ride Safe....

            Hey Picky

Yes i did take the MSF course.....it sure is an eye opener. And must if you plan to ride in the US. Yup i will take the experienced rider course too....its money well spent.

I too had a car driver coming from the opposite direction take a left right in front of me...while i was doing 45 MPH...and this time...he actually saw me...and still decided to take it.....the bike was 3 days old then.....i grabbed my brakes so hard.....felt the rear kinda lift...anyway..brakes on these bikes are incredible...so averted ramming into his side...
Sucks that the weather in the east sucks right now...yup i have been reading abt the recent snow storms.....Hope the weather clears up soon....

            thanks for all the suggestions...

            peace out

Thank Godz you are Safe, it happened to once as well, a similar incident, but the only difference was that i was stopping to he left with proper signaling during the night after 1am in chembur & the bike (i had at that time was a boxer, now i own a Pulsar 180 DTSi) was in first gear & the tempo rickshaw slammed into me, the moment i reached zero.

i was wearing the cover but my friend hurt his back real bad, but was fine after few weeks, even thou i had to ride him home that night with a fierce back pain.

                Godz Bless US ALL !!

                Ridez Safez !!

Remember, you could be doing 30 km/h but the guy who comes and crashes into you could be doing 90-100 km/h.

We have a menace loose on our roads called autorickshaws. Man, you should come down to Kolkata and see for yourself! They are mostly backed by political parties, get 'katatel' (homebrewed fuel with naptha and kerosene, poisonous and causes asthama, eye irritation, etc) for as low as 20 rupees a litre, and ride like their baap owns the place. Seriously they dont give a s*** for other road users. They swerve dangerously in traffic, turn left or right without indicators or signalling in any way causing other users to run off the road to avoid them.

I was going to be run into by an auto. He kept looking in a by-lane for people who might hire him, and when convinvced no one was coming, he strted off while still looking inside till the last possible moment. I was coming from the opposite side and was going to turn right (into the by-lane). He had not seen me and was going to run into me. I honked madly and flashed the high beam (twin lights of the R15). He saw me but was slow in reacting, but I was prepared, and swerved aside. But this time I made him stop and somehow managed to gain public sympathy. The auto driver got fired by everyone present there. But I dont think it makes any difference to these guys. Just we have to watch out.
                  You get the point?? :D

Yes its a nightmare, if you looked some place else, & the other guy, just rams into you, as he is also watching the birdy like you, i have heard traffic in delhi is worse than any place.

Heard a lot about the bus walla's ramming their wheel on public (checked on news)

Newayz Thank godz you are safe,
