  • PROJECT : Pulsar DRAGSTER... Retro Modding a Pulsar 150

Hii folks i'm new to xbhp and obviously this is my first post.

Mod a motorcycle, this idea kept on bugging me for the past 3 years and still now i'm amidst of the thoughts regarding it. Till now i have bought two bikes a pulsar 180 ug2 for doing the mods but what happened was i just restored it and dad sold it off. Same is the case with my second bike a pulsar 150 ug2.
Now im owning a pulsar 150 ug4 but i'm not getting any out of the box ideas to mod it. i kept hunting for pulsars going cheap on olx and quikr especially the classic ones or the dtsi ones with round headlights. During these i understood one thing that now i'm only searching for pulsars. I've become a devoted fan of pulsars and really addicted to the brand my friends call me pulsarmaniac but i dont care coz i know i'm one. I kept on designing on photoshop and did some rather sketches myself. still my design isn't at the final stage. I even dont know how many sleepless nights i've encountered thinking about my dream bike. and as i'm a student funds were also a big problem so the project kept on lagging and lagging.
I need some help from all of you guys regarding the mods. I'm only going for cosmetic mods no performance mod at all coz i like to cruize on my bike at average speeds and i'm not at all speed freak

    Mods to be done:

Forks : Ktm duke WP upside down forks i've seen pulsar with it in the internet but still can i fit in my old chassis?? I really need it

Handlebar : Ktm duke flat handle bar with handlebarweights on either side to reduce the vibrations as on the pulsar

Swing arm : Mono swing arm from the pulsar 200ns i like its beefy looks or from the duke or from the uni if going for spoke wheels.

Hugger chainguard : from the pulsar 200ns.

Mudguard front : 200ns mudguard custom cut and shortened at the rear with custom brackets.

The mono shock mod will be done along with carefull reinforcement of the chassis at the required area for the mod and its surroundings and a custom made air cleaner box personally i dont like performance filters. And even if i use it i'll only put it in the air cleaner box with careful upjetting and a shorty FFE.
And if i'm not going for mono shock then will go for swing arm of new pulsar 220 for the wide wheels.

Wheels : I'm really confused about it whether to go for 17 inch wire spoke wheels or alloys i'll list both you suggest your ideas

if Spoke : 17 inch rims for front from the bajaj avenger and a 100/80/r17 tyres.
17 rims from impulse for the rear with 110/80/r17 tyres or 16 inch rims from enticer or whatever with 120/80/r16 tyres.

the spoke rims would be either powder coated in any neon colors which i havent chosen or would be wrapped with carbon fibre vinyl.

I dont care about the stock wheel size of 18 inch and honestly i dont like it. and moreover the spoke wheel option will be selected if the money becomes a problem.

if Alloys : Alloy set from ktm duke with 100/80/r17 at front and 130/70 r17 at the rear.
Alloy set from pulsar 200ns with similar tyre configurations.

I dont want to plonk big tyres and make my bike suffer.

Discs and Brakes : As per the Wheel choice and four pot brake calliper at front from the duke . and with steel braided lines and DOT 4 oil.

Rearsets : rearsets from the 180 if dum brake or from 220 if disk as these are 100% direct fit.

Kicker : kicker from apache rtr for clearing the rearsets.

Side panels : side panels from the newer pulsar with the mesh type grill ,wrapped in carbon fibre vinyl on the painted area.

Seats : Split seats from the pulsar 200 ns or a custom made split seat with aggressive seating stance.

Tail cowl : original cowl moved a bit forward to compensate the shorter 200ns seats it also makes the rear wheel protrude more outwards like the duke to enhance the stance as i like. or tail cowl from the 200ns.

Grab rails : split flying type grab rails from the 200ns or p135 whichever that fits

Bellypan : bellypan from the R15 or from the newer apache rtr

Fuel tank : carbon wrap on the tank cap , new 3d pulsar monogram.

Number plate : Number plate and holder from the 200ns

Tail lights : smoked tail lights with custom led lights and the newer style triangular led stop lights on the reflecter part of the rear number plate holder assembly.

Headlight : Pulsar classic headlight with carbon fibre vinyl wrapped rims. and slightly tinted glass

Indicators : Led Indicators as on duke or any after market ones.

Meter console : analogue console with carbon vinyl wrapped around the area near the different light indications and custom dials for the speedo ,tacho and fuel meters and change all the lights to leds.

Engine : Overhaul the engine if necessary paint it black and i think the new silver engine covers from the ug4.5 pulsar would make look the bike more appealing.

Chassis : Powder coat the chassis in black after all the mods.

Exhaust : Stock exhaust with muffler wrapped in carbon vinyl or custom made shorty slipon if going for a performance filter.

Paint Job : not finalised yet.

    Suggestion required :

    1. can the ktm usd fork can be fitted??

    2. the rim option ??

    3. how can i make the analogue speedo work with ktm wheels?? not a problem with p200ns wheels though.

    4. if using avenger wheels i think inorder to put bigger disk to suit the duke fork i think the petal disk from the apache is a direct fit (270 mm) and the size difference of just 5mm in radius doesn't matter much than the stock 280mm of early model duke. the avenger's wheel is selected as it has a wide front hub and i think the disk spacing would be similar to the duke and can be fitted easilly without the need of any spacers or so on.

    5. is there any other spoke rim for the rear that is the widest and can easilly fit 130 section tyre without bulging it upwards.

    6. Did any one see a pulsar with ktm duke forks anywhere in internet or anywhere else ??i'm having some pics but it would be a great help of you guys help out... if yes please post the photos of the same. The main concern is that whether it will fit in the stem or not if yes everything is almost solved.

    PLEASE post your valuable suggestions.

I'm attaching a concept sketch of my " pulsar DRAGSTER " (almost in the final stage)

please do comment on the design.

honestly dont want to demotivate you but whats the point of investing so much money on a 12bhp bike and hopefully you know that KTM's usd forks gonna cost you a bomb. i understand the effort you have done in planning and figure out details but its just not worth it. not on a machine like pulsar.

going custom from scratch is a diffrent thing all together. modding a motorcycle which itself is not a great handler is no fun.

Tail lights : smoked tail lights with custom led lights and the newer style triangular led stop lights on the reflecter part of the rear number plate holder assembly.if you plan to retain the ug1/2 tailpanel then gofor the zma taillamps they will require so cutting and trimming but they will look gorgeous

Indicators : Led Indicators as on duke or any after market ones.

Meter console : analogue console with carbon vinyl wrapped around the area near the different light indications and custom dials for the speedo ,tacho and fuel meters and change all the lights to leds.

Engine : Overhaul the engine if necessary paint it black and i think the new silver engine covers from the ug4.5 pulsar would make look the bike more appealing the mods you have planned will add significant weight to the machine best thing will be to get a 220 engine from scrap and use it

Chassis : Powder coat the chassis in black after all the mods.

Exhaust : Stock exhaust with muffler wrapped in carbon vinyl or custom made shorty slipon if going for a performance filter.

Paint Job : not finalised yet.

          Suggestion required :

          1. can the ktm usd fork can be fitted
you need to first compare the dimensions of both ,you need first get hold of a ktm t stem and compare dimensions with that of the pulsar , also because of the width of the ktm front end you should also check whether it will clear the pulsars tank when turned lock to lock

          2. the rim option ?? if budget allows go for alloys besides it will gel better to the overall look of your sketch

          3. how can i make the analogue speedo work with ktm wheels?? not a problem with p200ns wheels though.

          4. if using avenger wheels i think inorder to put bigger disk to suit the duke fork i think the petal disk from the apache is a direct fit (270 mm) and the size difference of just 5mm in radius doesn't matter much than the stock 280mm of early model duke. the avenger's wheel is selected as it has a wide front hub and i think the disk spacing would be similar to the duke and can be fitted easilly without the need of any spacers or so on. with this mix and match how do you plan on centering the front wheel in the ktmfront end

          5. is there any other spoke rim for the rear that is the widest and can easilly fit 130 section tyre without bulging it upwards.

          6. Re: PROJECT : Pulsar DRAGSTER... Retro Modding a Pulsar 150

Your sketch resembles a bit of mahindra mojo.

Now, if you have money to go ahead with all the mods the performance gain is nil. You will love it for few days or months, but you will crave for more power and eventually you would feel the money has been wasted.

Now you might be ok with enhancing the looks and no performamce upgrades. But trust me my friend you will get bored soon.

Better to save a bit more and buy the mojo, which is the closest resemblance to your beautiful sketch.

And by the way, the sketch is just super sexy, man!!!!

And by the thread name, I thought woah!!!! A dragster which will be related to performance and not esthetics.

No offense brother, end of day its your money, Spend it wisely!

            Cheers,

Can be used if you are using new extended swing arm.

              4. if using avenger wheels i think inorder to put bigger disk to suit the duke fork i think the petal disk from the apache is a direct fit (270 mm) and the size difference of just 5mm in radius doesn't matter much than the stock 280mm of early model duke. the avenger's wheel is selected as it has a wide front hub and i think the disk spacing would be similar to the duke and can be fitted easilly without the need of any spacers or so on.
I doubt it can be done classic

              5. is there any other spoke rim for the rear that is the widest and can easilly fit 130 section tyre without bulging it upwards.
Stock 18" can take up 120 section easily.

I'm attaching a concept sketch of my " pulsar DRAGSTER " (almost in the final stage)

Ideally it would be much cheaper to buy a second hand KTM then trying to make a pulsar into KTM.
