So would you suggest that all of us get our oil changed?? I got my bike serviced about 10 days ago, and one of the RTRs got it serviced 2-3 days before the trip.

Or is it, that we make a mental note and make sure that we get the oil changed earlier than usual, because we did some high speed long stints.

Sorry, but I am new to biking/riding and don't have much knowledge on the know-how of vehicles.

@Leadup-I suggest you to change your engine oil very soon since you had done a high speed run on a fairly new bike(How many kms?).The engine generally opens up properly only after 10K kms and doing high speed runs before that affects your engine life.

Any mineral oil is sufficient for the moment.Just make sure that if you are regularly touring or riding for long hours then the changing interval should be 500-700kms less than what is suggested in manual.

Yeah!! Hosur-Krishnagiri is like.. awesome. Silken smooth with enough barricades and markers and amazing view. But even after Krishnagiri.. the road remains amazing.. thats why those high number for long !!

Thanks for the advice. My bike (Fuzzy) has done some 6K and the two RTRs have done around 4K. Unicorn is fairly old, some 20K Kms.

Will keep in mind about the oil-change.

How about additives. Is it advisable to use??

For your bike's engine sake, DO NOT use any kind of additives WHATSOEVER! These are crap, nothing else. Don't let anyone sweet-talk into putting this shit into your beloved bike's engine. Period!

For most 150cc bikes, 80 would be the ideal speed for fuel efficiency as well as to have the engine destressed. I also got around 48 from my R15 when cruising at 80-90. Don't ask me about mileage while ripping at 120-130

.

As for breaks, I always take a break after about 100km. so that I can stretch myself&the bike can cool down. Even if the engine is not overheated, the tyres need to cool.

Using synths&semi-synths definitely helps as compared to minerals during touring, as those oils do not get overheated quickly&ensure good engine performance without overheating.

As for additives, I don't use them-I use Extra Premium petrol which is the same octane no., but with additives already in it!

^^Nopes.Good petrol+Timely engine oil change+Regular service is what all you need.

Warm up the engine for 10-15 minutes before draining the engine oil.

I use petrol from Shell. For this trip I used Shell Normal (i.e. not Shell super). Mileage...Fuzzy gives around 30 for High speeds and normal 80 or so in daily use, I get 35-38.
I mostly do my commuting on ORR during time when traffic is quite less morning before 7:30 and night after 8. So it is almost like highway only.

Reminds me I need to change my oil too. I took the CBZ with a 4k-old Motul 5100 for about 120 km riding in the 80s and could smell a burning when I parked at home.

As for the additives, I have used one from Castrol (max booster or something). Doesn't have much effect on any front.

Drive at steady 80kmph that should be decent enough on long rides, Less stress to engine and you can control also incase anything goes wrong.

I know i am saying but 80 is decent but when you drive an R15 things change , still been there done that ...Had a crash at 115kmph...i have survived and hence telling don't do to much high speed unless you really got a completely straight empty patch. MG knows best

Decent 80 is fine for you and your machine.

I guess 90-100 is perfectly fine. Coz thats a speed that everyone is comfortable on highways (basically) ,.i.e. 150cc - 223cc bikes

the horny trucks & speeding 4 wheelers as well.
But the speed also depends upon:
*No. of lanes
*Road condition
*Traffic
*Solo/group
*& Personal Comfort factor
Taking a break every 70-80 kms. is very good n makes the journey, non-tiring n fun.

n the engine gets a lil rest once every hour, so the tour basically goes smoooth!

I generally cruise at varying speeds from 80 - 100 km/hr. but that is my case bcoz of the Karizma...

Otherwise in case of a 150cc bike it wud have been 80km/hr.

I too prefer to cruise at 80-90 kmph. But, most of the times I end up riding with ravikiran, who rides a p220, who always keeps his bike above 110kmph, and then I too rip at 100-110 kmph to keep up with him.

If there is traffic, I follow my own set of comfort zones.

He's over 120 KMPH as far as it permits.
