220s input and ouput for oil cooler is next to each other I always wondered how would the oil circulate when both the holes are next to each other

Re: Oil cooled Apache RTR180
Brilliant Mod, Abishek94 and you have no Clue how badly I wanted to do this on my RTR too. In fact, I was talking about this with my mechanic!
I actually have to go for a rebore (at 5.7k kms) because the oil evaporated from the Crankcase.
Although the standard Aluminum Alloy Engine does a good job at letting out heat, the little 1986 Engine really needs Everything you can throw at it.
Planning to get it done to about 205cc now(Using P220 Bore), Rebore and all. A Proper Re-Build, that it so badly deserves!
I Have One Question though! Would it be okay to use Braided Hose instead of the Metal Tubes off the 220 kit? It would be much simpler and also reduces the Headache of Bending and all that, right? Just an Opinion!
Any suggestions would be Gladly Appreciated.
Thanks!Last edited by darth_vader19; 03-26-2016, 03:51 PM.

Re: Oil cooled Apache RTR180
Hi, I didn't quite understand your little 1986 engine statement
205 cc is definitely possible as it has been done by racers, regular owners as well as TVS themselves now with the new 4V rtr
Why don't you frame this question in the Fiero owners group too?
A lot of experts there can offer you solutions regarding your braided hose query.

Not even worth a Google search. Isn't it practical observation that hotter the liquid gets less viscous they become.

i have installed oil cooler on honda cbf stunner but it was much difficult to do it coz it does not have a provisionOriginally posted by dustom_99 View PostWell done! Half the battle is knowing your vehicle.
Information that the engine already has a provision for oil cooler is the key here. Good DIY!

Re: Oil cooled Apache RTR180
Abishek94, great job here man! Any plans of getting a thermostat? Also, I have a question on functionality - have you considered a radiator fan? Do you think it will benefit the bike more? How are the vibes on the RTR now? I noticed that my bike vibrated lesser and the gear shifts were smoother when it ran cooler. I know only as much as I just read on the internet about radiator technology. Could you point me towards some of the research you did for this?Don't matter what it is: Touring; Racing; Commuting. All I know is, I belong on the saddle.

Re: Oil cooled Apache RTR180
Finally, I have decided to install an oil cooler on my RTR 180. I am planning to purchase Avenger's oil cooler (no thermostat as suggested in this thread). However, for the pipes, I am thinking of using braided hoses instead.
Braided hose (please check colour A2/A3 in the pics):
I have a few questions here:
1. Can I use braided pipes instead?
2. The banjo ring diameter mentioned for this pipe is 10mm. Do these pipes fit the Avenger's oil cooler?
PS: I assume full responsibility if something breaks while installing an oil cooler. Suggestions are welcome. Thanks!

-No plans of thermostat as it's not a necessity for this setup.
-Coming to the radiator fan, yes I have considered it but as of now I don't have any plan of installing it. Yes it will benefit the bike as heat dissipation will improve because of the fan but I feel the current setup is simple and I do not want to complicate it right now (electricals etc).
-vibes are the same as before [emoji14]
- what I'm expecting from this setup is longer engine life as well as engine oil life.

2. I am not sure if these will fit the avengers oil cooler. The union points are different. Have a look at any p220/avengers oil cooler fitment, then you will get an idea.

Re: Oil cooled Apache RTR180
1. Braided hoses: Yes. But end fittings must be different. The image in link shows M10 banjo eye on both ends. Cooler has an O-ring that sits on the outside diameter of metal portion of the oil hoses. You cannot change the end connections on the cooler. See if u can get an adapter machined. One end having a plain tube (flanged) to go into the cooler and another end with a M10 x 1.25 tap (female). The banjo bolt threads on to this female tap in the adapter. Only problem i see with this complicated arrangement is the number of washers you need to use.Originally posted by Abishek94 View Post1. Yes you can use braided hoses.

2. The coolers are same except for the temperature switch. You can dummy this switch with a bolt-washer combination. If my understanding goes correct, not whole of the oil pump output (i mean lub. oil) goes into the radiator. Only part of it goes and gets cooled. I flushed in some oil from one of the ends in the housing and it simply took its way out from the other end. So, i feel, there is nothing that opens and closes the path based on oil temperature. I can only visualize a reduction in fueling from the ECU taking this temperature as input, only for safety purposes. It means to say, if temperature of lub. oil (and hence the overall engine temp) is higher than a set value (in the ECU), the fueling reduces so as to prevent permanent engine damage. You can 'LIMP HOME' with this mapping and get it checked (as to what is exactly the reason for this heating up) at a SVC.

Re: Oil cooled Apache RTR180
Hi Guy's,
Anyone can tell me how much Volt (Battery Charging) will be getting in Ideal speed of Apache 180.
For me it was 12.8 Volt @ ideal 1.5 k rpm, its suppose to be 14Volt i think so, and in 6K its was 13V.,
Im my Apache some Power drop when im using horn and indicator at same time.. FYI my Battery is new..
