tw, have you thought of riding down to Mumbai from Bangalore? Should be a 2-day affair. The road from Bangalore to Pune is superb as well.

I have recently been through this, so here goes:

Ans 3a: RC and Insurance COPY (in my case they didnt even take Keys, just left the handle unlocked, thats it)
3b. Since you are there ONLY for 6 weeks, just take a FRESH PUC certificate the last day whenever you pack your bike, that alongwith your insurance will be sufficient to prove that you have indeed Recently rode into Mumbai and rest is your convincing to make them understand you are there only for 6 weeks.

1. Yes packers will pack in your presence. they will load in your presence (packing bubble wrap for fragile parts, cardboard wrap for entire body barring wheels, followed by cling film wrap on entire bike)
BUT (i dont mean to raid on your parade brother), packers and movers will give you SHARED transport, which means your bike will be packed and PICKED UP with appropriate delivery codes, that truck will only take it to nearest HUB and from there it will be loaded into another truck taking it to next way point alongwith other people's stuff going the same route. NOW packers and movers Will handle your bike carefully, but then they are known to drop stuff, or then squeeze too many items in.

Your bike's insurance is the only confidence they have that any damage WILL BE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY, that is UNLESS YOU PURCHASE ADDITIONAL INSURANCE FROM THEM. (separate insurance is 10% of the declared value of goods, you can declare any value its upto you, they wont interfere here)

I sent a bike and a scooter from Pune to HYD ALONGWITH house hold items and the cost was hardly any. But to send a bike separately it may be anywhere from INR 4-6k, One way, varying from company to company.


ALSO i have seen right here in threads that at certain entry points into Mumbai you may even be haggled for Octroi (experienced people, correct me if i am wrong) which has to be borne by you. So clarify that with your transporter before hand.

I had to transport my R15 V2 from my home town to Bangalore last year. Heard a lot of good about Agarwal packers, so called them up and booked my bike for transport.
They sent 2 guys with a supervisor to pack the bike in front of me. Bubble wrapped the whole thing, then came the cardboard and then the clingy plastic film at last. Took the bike away in tempo and it was delivered without even a single scratch, within a week in Bangalore cost me 8500 Rs.

So last month I got transferred back to north India, having good experience with Agarwal packers decided to use their service again. so called them up again and they said quoted 10000 Rs for the exact same transaction, saying that tax has increased. Having faith in them I booked the transport. On the day of pickup People from entirely different transport company show up to pack the bike. I called the Agarwal packers and they said they were a branch of Agarwal packer and say its ok, so they pack the bike and take it away.

Now the problems start, it take more than 3 weeks to get the bike. Any phone calls emails go unanswered regarding the status of the transport. After 3 weeks I mail to higher managers and then after 3 days of angry mails to senior authorities, I get my bike delivered. The bike is all scratched, dent on the tank, the tail section is missing pieces, the sticker on the fairing was torn. And I was left with a damaged bike.

So what I would advice is to use Agarwal packers because they are the best, though a bit expensive. Secondly while confirming the booking, make crystal clear that if anybody other than agarwal packers guys showed up at your door to take the bike you will cancel the booking and opt for some other company. Third, single items like bikes are transported with the bulk of somebody else's luggage. So they loaded and unloaded many times which leads to damage., but it is still safer than trains. I have seen bikes and activas thrown in and out of trains like potato sacs. At the end its just a matter of luck and hope for the best.

I had my wife's RayZ transported from Chennai to Delhi in train.. Not a single scratch whatsoever it only cost me 2000/-

I am not sure how they handle the stuff.. but it was nicely packed...

Same here. Bokaro to Chennai via train in 2011. Not a single scratch. Yes, they did manage to open the left RVM though. Cost 2300 rupees.
Chennai to Bangalore via Agarwal packers in 2013. Cost 6k odd. Damages - broken front fender, broken RVM.

I wanted to take a few minutes and thank bikeship.co.uk and your staff for doing an outstanding job on shipping my Suzuki GSXR 1000 from Overton, UK to the southeast England.
