Re: How(where?) do you carry your bike papers?

I always carry the originals and keeps it inside the under seat storage area. In the past I tried to carry the attested copies and the Originals (RC and Tax receipt) at home. Once mobile court caught me and found the photo copies carrying gazetted officer signature expired (only 6 months validity?) and finally had to pay Rs.100 fine. Its not the matter of Rs.100 but I had to be in Que for atleast 30 minitues and people looks on us like as a criminal..

One question though, is it necessary to carry originals with me all the time when riding?
Inside city riding, that wont be necessary, a legitimate photocopy of the papers is enough. I keep mine under the seat wrapped in 2 plastic covers to keep it from collecting dust and water, Whilst going for a long rides to another state, its advisable to carry your originals preferably.

Re: How(where?) do you carry your bike papers?

The MV Act only requires you to carry your original Driving Licence (Copy not allowed). All other documents if demanded can be produced at the Police Station in 14 Days. I never carry my documents unless I am crossing the border (never done it on a bike though). When I had my CBZ, I only collected the RC from RTO, the day I was selling the bike. For the Duke I realized that I hadn't collected the RC when I went for Insurance renewal. They needed a copy to enter the registration number in the policy. I had made the policy before registering the bike.
But all said and done I have never been asked to produce documents by the Police when riding.

Re: How(where?) do you carry your bike papers?

I had a chat with a traffic cop on this original vs photocopy discussion a while back in Mumbai. He too said that only DL needs to be in original. For all the other docs, you can carry a photocopy. So, I carry my original DL in my wallet and photocopy of insurance papers under the seat cover. PUC certificate is in original and is carried under the rear seat too (If the bike is stolen, no use of the original PUC ).

For the RC, I have a different approach: I got a color photocopy of the RC (they dont give the plastic card any more in Mumbai), got it laminated and keep it inside the rear seat with other docs. Looks like the original. All the original papers are kept safely in my house.

(In Hyderbad now, hence) RC and Insurance fetched on demand through MWallet App, Driving licence and PUC in wallet.
(While in Maharashtra) Driving license and PUC in wallet, Copies of all other papers in back pack as well as in bike utility box.

Developed a habit of keeping Car and bike PUC in wallet always as otherwise i often forgot to renew it in time.

And you leave them there? If the bike gets stolen, the papers go with it.
