        I strongly suggest dropping the idea of Matador fully and look for other alternatives. One reason being most of them would be vintage and prone to fail. Most roadside guys are reluctant repair them and so availability of spares. Second being, not at all a highway friendly thing. Hard to keep above 60s and brakes re of bygone era and should have to be lucky enough to save the cargo in panic situation. Last reason, though the engine is a Merc derived bullet proof one, the mechanicals are not. Front axle-drive shaft was prone to breakage (Most days we were late for school ) and engine overheating thanks to cooling system. Later they developed an improved rear-wheel drive version Matador pickup, which failed miserably, being killed by 407 and it never made into the Matador van.

          Wow. Thanks! I'm probably going to ditch the matador idea and look for a cheap Tata Winger, unless the matador I find is extremely cheap and in an extremely good condition

            Well if you are willing to put time n effort in converting a winger why not put the same in a Tata xenon soft top? Here you save the issue of commercial vehicle thing and a making ur own soft top will give you customizing freedom. Add to that you still get 4 seating. So track day can be a friends/ family affair too.

                I really liked the Xenon but how am I fitting a Ducati at the back? The space available in the 4 seater is not enough for the Ducati and not too many two seater pick ups are available on the used car market.

                  Considering I'm spending almost everything I have and more on the Ducati, I want to spend as little as I can on the Matador Project. It's going to be spread out over a few months so I'll keep saving from my salary to develop this into a pretty neat project. But nothing on the lines of DC and Morpheus.

                    It really is. Xenon 4 seater luggage area length = 1430 mm
                    Panigale wheelbase =
                    1,431 mm

                    A) its only a mm, you'll manage.
                    B) Even if you dont, diagonally, there will be plenty of space.
                    c) for the drawing attention part that you're worried about

                      If you want single pickup then xenon also has a single pickup & you can also check Isuzu Dmax as another option.

                      And When I say soft top I mean somewhat like this:



                      Which doesn't restrict you but also provides your bike cover from the elements & prying eyes.

                        Both of these look fantastic. The Xenon especially. I'll go take a look to see if it can safely hold the bike. If it is too tight a squeeze then we'd be running into trouble. I'll confirm that by checking it out st the showroom

                        The issue of price still remains though. Second hand Xenons would be costly and the Dmax just launched so very few if any will be in the used car market. From a price perspective unless I get a great deal I don't think I could move in for either of these two.

                          If a day's transport is all you need, and that too, once a month then why not spend some cash and construct a Motorbike-box which will be enough to house your bike+some tools & biking gear; then hire a tempo/ flatbed for a day or 2 everytime you need to do a trackday! This way you won't have to worry or go thru all the hassle involved.

                          At the outset renting might sound as an expensive option but when you consider all the hassels & nuances & long term costs involved for owning a "motorcycle transport trailer/grage" it far outweighs the once a while renting costs on a need basis.

                            Sure. I get that. But if you look at it from more than just a track day perspective, buying a Van/Pickup makes more sense I feel. Say I want to head to Jaisalmer or the hills or my farms. The Xenon would be perfect cause it can be used as a regular everyday vehicle as well. The winger and the matador not so much.

                            Again like everyone here has mentioned, I'll probably take a call once the Panigale arrives and I have a better understanding of how often I actually will take her out of the city
