  • Why is the vehicle transfer process between different states in India required?

    Hello Friends,
Interstate bike transfer in India is a big headache if you are constantly moving around. Why should people be forced to pay Road tax every time they move to a new state when already 15 year tax has been given at the time of registration. Its need of the hour to change the process!!

    So,

    1. Is there any existing way to obtain clearance throughout India for a private vehicle(Bike).
    2. If not what are we going to do about it?
    4
    Centralized Registration system for vehicles
    75.00%
    3
National permit for required vehicles (Private)
    25.00%
    1
Current system is sufficient (Re register your vehicle in every state))
    0.00%
    0
    If everything seems under control.
You are not going fast enough!

There is a petition in progress which demands uniform taxation country-wide.
In the current scenario, different states have different tax slabs. For e.g, Delhi/Haryana/Jharkhand has 6% taxes or so and Karnataka has 16+% taxes.

So, a JH bike when moved to KA should pay LTT to KA (within 11 months along with an NOC from JH) and get a refund from JH on a pro rated basis. This method works but takes time and some running around. You can retain your number plates though without re-registering.

Once, uniform taxation comes into place (with say 11-12% uniform tax), JH won't be happy and KA folk shall be happy. But govts in both places will face a lot of flak from residents/union lobbies. These are revenue generating mechanisms and states lobby hard to keep it the way it is.

Lets hope for the best and comply with rules until then.

It got closed because it reached the number of signatures needed by people looking for the same.
It is spear headed by Mr Waseem Memon from Bangalore. Last update was that he met Mr Nitin Gadkari regarding the case and they're preparing for a legal battle to see it through. It may take a couple of years at the very least to get either side of judgement.

In the meanwhile, I would advice people to pay their taxes as per the slab now.
