  • Revelations of a biker.

This is direct from the heart.I knew I was right about the feeling of MAN and MACHINE are one. It's just that I couldn't find a tangible proof till now about my deepest feelings. But bikers never say die.So now I do have something up here want to share and discuss your thoughts on it.

I have managed finally to link the concept of man and the machine as one.I was always sure that all machines have character, all bikes ,all cars have a distinct personality and they too do live. This is not an exaggeration - these are facts. What you always felt was true.. though you did not have a way to prove it. I make a humble attempt to put forward my thoughts on what i learnt the last 2 years.

Quantum mechanics/Modern physics is slowly redefining the concept of life itself. The distinction between the purely organic and the inorganic is dissolving slowly.Consciousness is not confined within bodily limits, it is non-local.The simple experiment of looking at a particle of light illustrates this fact. When the observer looks at the particle of light it behaves differently and and when you are not looking it is different. It was always said that the light has a dual nature(particle and wave). So our consciousness is fundamental and consciousness is spread throughout the universe( and that includes our machines too).

Everything lives ,awareness permeates even rocks and pebbles as it was said in the scriptures - All is one and one is all which completely agrees with the quantum physics theory of everything that all came from one source(Grand unified theory/Big bang) (Books referred- Tao of physics-Fritjof Capra/Code name GOD- By Mani bhaumik).Even the big bang theory says that the universe started from singularity - so essentially we are all one with the machines and ourselves- the only dividing line is the mind -that has been shaped up by the world we live in .You will get abundant references you will find in the scriptures - various spiritual traditions about the sacredness that permeates everything.

Everything is dyanamic the metals, the rubber the fuel everything lives - no as much in awareness as we do but they do have something that throbs in them - the very essence of life. That clearly explains the love man has had for machines and the thrill that they provide us with. The very experience of Driving is like a meditation for Bike lovers like us.Because we are so involved in the act of it.This total involvement is what brings happiness to souls like us.... it sets you free, from the mundane, you seek adventure -that is YOU ,your very essence -your soul seeking glory from the shackles of this ordinary life- you seek to soar heights - you want to wring that throttle till the machines sing the tunes that makes your soul dance with thrill - you want to push, push the limits and break the laws- for the soul of a man knows no limits.

So lets rejoice and revel in the biking brotherhood for it is a beginning of far greater things we are going to witness in the future. It is a start well made and it gives me immense pleasure to be a part of this brotherhood. So love your machines and it will love you in return.

Cheers to XBHP and the members who have started this venture and who promote biking as a lifestyle in India. You guys are doing a great job !! Carry on and GodSpeed.

    Topic Approved.

Have you penned these words down? If yes, then you sure have a penchant for writing, my friend! Loved the article, although certain parts did go over my head, I confess!

Interesting speech, almost bordering on religion, if you may.

But yes, something for the level of mere mortals would be highly appreciated.

PS: As you are new, would request that we stick to biking - this has the veins of becoming a general philosophical post as well - best outside xbhp.

Well elucidated... something I have always felt - that the so called in-animate objects I come across are as alive as can be. I have drawn much flak from a lot of people including parents that I "care" more for these inanimate objects than for humans. Obviously we speak different languages and see different things... sigh!

I feel this has as much to do with biking as mundane things like lubes and disc brakes and tyres...

Let us revel in the cosmic dance of Shiva...

I believe you got my point Sir. I was just pointing out that such passion for the so-called inanimate objects is really well justified. I just made a humble attempt to justify our passions for the machines that we have ... sometimes putting everything else aside to get that bike.

An article in the TOI 29th April.

An excerpt from an article in TOI dated April 29 under the column "The speaking tree" By Stephen Isaac.

Driving could also be a spiritual experience.

I am a driver with 35 years of experience who is yet unable to say: "I am perfect".Everyday i learn something new,or a memory prevents me from embarrasing myself.Preventing ego from disturbing my driving is a very beautiful spiritual exercise, because in Bangalore's traffic, your patience is tested to the maximum.

Driving is also a form of mediation. My mind becomes a blank except for information being relayed to it by the eyes, and which it instantly translates into action for my feet and hands to use.All done in nanoseconds.

To enhance this meditation I have to become one with the car

I have this habit of becoming one with what i see.I become one with the kite soaring in the sky,to see the wonderful vista below through it's eyes. It's the same looking at a tree, unless i become the tree i will never be able to experience the insect life teeming under the bark or running around the branches.

This is equivalent to being one with the universe, one energy. This is one of the highest forms of meditation.

After merging with the car,an i am moving, every sound it makes becomes an eloquent testimony of whether it is happy or not.Rolling in to the traffic my peripheral vision goes active.to warn me of any vehicle coming alongside,my side mirrors helping in the process.

My eyes never focusing on any given point, flicker from left to right continuously ,assessing every vehicle in front and using their weaknesses if they exist,to ease past and keep moving with the least resistance.Memory is working full time about the humps, potholes crossings both major and minor. The rear view mirror becomes an eye in the back of my head,to know what is behind me all the times.

The most spiritual part of this driving is this meditative driving is that i always make sure i am not inconveniencing anybody, whether it is a pedestrian,cyclist,two-wheeler or anything else including animals.Even vehicles hindering my way i smile at them and let pass, thus avoiding any loss of concentration. So my awareness of being one with everything around me is heightened by caring.

This is a meditation of oneness,of knowing gods's oneness in everything animate and inanimate.

"God's oneness my companions is the only law of being.Another name for it is love.To know it and abide by it is to abide in life. But to abide by any other law is to abide in non-being ,or Death."

How true ,but can we get everybody to feel the same way? I don't know.

              ^^

vow... this is one of an amazing writeup..!! @vivian.. awesome stuff there, so true to feel..
instigated me to think & extract something from my heart...

Consolidating with the machine to feel it, thats so true.. U & I still remember the time, when our bikes conked off due to some pain, in middle of no-where & we spoke nervously virtually with the machine, pleaded it to get running & yeah it has done that, utilized the last breathe, came back to life for a while & has taken us to the source of help; till its breathe lasted..
This is a wonderful instance to realize it does "feel",..

Care for the machine & it will never let u down.. Speak with the machine, it will respond u back by an expression on the road.... They can feel us & we do feel them., Theres a connection a biker & a bike shares, which no-one can interpret.. Make this connection more strong.. The only difference between our expression & the machines, is the language, which is nothing but a distinct way to express having the same purpose...
I still remember the time, years back when i was a no-vice & got my beautiful companion with two wheels.. When I panicked on road, in middle of traffic where I stood as a prey, having difficult times to control it.. But my bike stood by my side without expressing a clue of irritation, telling me.. "Its fine, do it again". Always felt proud when I be with her.. Was in a real pain when I saw my bikes state after the crash, had sleepless night till I saw her in a proper shape.. We both looked each other in pain when we saw each other wounds.. Smiled at each other, when again started zooming & breathing on the highway..

Makes me wonder, why do I feel so much for her, why it pains when I see her having trouble, why do I always try to defend some limitation if she has than of the rivals.. Why.?
I know here on this part of the world which is xBHP, all of us do feel the same way.. No one can take any words against the machine we own, cause it has always stood by us. Seen with us, our life, bad & good times.. Saw me falling, the best time of my life I had with my better half, heard when we faught, stood in the sun in parking out of my office waiting for me for long hours..... Done so much for us, how we can call it a "Non-Living Bike". Its more than that.. a Living Machine which can breathe & react..

This is a mere example & evidence of we having a strong Bonding between Us & Our Machine. Hence from the above, one fact can be concluded is "Yes, they are watching us, they are feeling us.. They do LIVE, Love them & Get Loved"

Nice to read your words bro, we do indeed share a special relationship with our rides.. I do remember talking to my bike on many occassions like- when i was low on money and had no fuel in the tank i used to ask her to just go that extra mile.. sometimes it magically responded to my wishes

Saw this 'heart-talk' just today. Nice. Though it does require a strong preamble of similar thoughts to really get inside it.

Yes, Vivian, the human mind does have a penchant of attaching some 'living' characteristics to his possessions. And all the more so with possessions that 'go' places with him and also seem to partner his life/death decisions. Pilots swear by their planes, drivers by their cars, sailors by their boats and of course bikers by their motorcycles.

This though could be endless. Life itself is perception and so expanding on it is like the infinite progression of multiple images when two mirrors are kept face to face. Being in love with your steed is the defining element in both the quantity and quality of your riding life. And being able to share this love for the inanimate, without fearing the 'queer-chap' label, is one of the bonuses of forums like these. Keeping it short n simple, love your bike and it will be returned in kind. Don't...and some day it will betray you when you will need it the most. (In simpler non-metaphysical way: maintain your bike and it will take you places. Miss on the 'taking care' and your brakes might fail when that car is straight in your path, the chain might break in the middle of nowhere or the engine could die on you on a cold dark night miles from help or home).

Very relevant and introspection-inducing write up. Thanks for it.
I don't let my motorcycles interfere with my motorcycling...

Very well written mate, My previous bike never made me push. Even if i was out of petrol, my bike would stop exactly in front of a petrol pump and this has not happened once. She is still my best friend.
