@Vivian C; OF:I agree to all of the above. But where does one draw the line between "love for the in-animate" & "materialism"? This one question irks me no end.
Eagerly awaiting a reply.10 Commandments:
1)Thank thy God for being alive.
2)Thou shalt respect one's own life and the live's of other road users.
3)Thou shalt respect one's own bike.
4)Love thy bike as thy self.
5)Always wear safety gear.
6)Alcohol is a strict NO!
7)Thou may lust after thy neighbour's bike specially if its of the R1 kind!
8)Thou shalt ride with 'ultra-most' care and caution when on Indian roads.
9)Thou shalt never leave the engine running at long traffic halts.
10)Thou shalt follow all of the above.

hey write up Vivian....some parts about the quantum mechanics and stuff did go over my head though.
but yeah...the man and the machine are like a two piece jigsaw....one doesn't live without the other.....im someone who strongly believes in extra terrestrial life and its not difficult to convince me that the darlings we ride have a life....we might not be able to see it obviously...all said and done...its upto the individual to decide wht he is more comfortable with...i feel happy looking at my steed and thinking tht she has a potent life....u never kno...when we ain looking...they might just come to life and play basket ball in the garage

The question arises from wrong perception. Materialism occurs when you cannot sense beyond the senses. You are more than matter. Also, the question is premature, as in you would not be using the phrase "love for the in-animate"; if you could actually and not just verbally appercieve the object in question as sentient.Originally posted by 46wannabe View Post@Vivian C; OF:I agree to all of the above. Thank you Sir for your encouraging comments. My whole purpose of writing this article was summarized by you simply in this statement -Maintain your bike and it will take you places.Originally posted by Old Fox View PostSaw this 'heart-talk' just today. Nice. Though it does require a strong preamble of similar thoughts to really get inside it.
Yes, Vivian, the human mind does have a penchant of attaching some 'living' characteristics to his possessions. And all the more so with possessions that 'go' places with him and also seem to partner his life/death decisions. Pilots swear by their planes, drivers by their cars, sailors by their boats and of course bikers by their motorcycles.
This though could be endless. Life itself is perception and so expanding on it is like the infinite progression of multiple images when two mirrors are kept face to face. Being in love with your steed is the defining element in both the quantity and quality of your riding life. And being able to share this love for the inanimate, without fearing the 'queer-chap' label, is one of the bonuses of forums like these. Keeping it short n simple, love your bike and it will be returned in kind. Don't...and some day it will betray you when you will need it the most. (In simpler non-metaphysical way: maintain your bike and it will take you places. Miss on the 'taking care' and your brakes might fail when that car is straight in your path, the chain might break in the middle of nowhere or the engine could die on you on a cold dark night miles from help or home).
Very relevant and introspection-inducing write up. Thanks for it.
Not yet. But i plan to undertake this journey soon.
Love is one thing and obsession is another. The word In-animate is a mis-conception there is nothing in-animate it's just that we do not have the perception required to see the dynamic aspect of everything. Consciousness shapes everything and the more we are connected with our own consciousness the more we can connect with the surrounding environment and discover that we are one with everything- just like bodies of matter and energy - united in awareness but divided by the limited conditioned mind.Anyways this can go endless and become OT.So pm me if you want to know more.Originally posted by 46wannabe View Post@Vivian C; OF:I agree to all of the above. @VIVIAN_C, Raccoon, rachitkohli...you all are hopeless...plain hopeless...just like me
going thru your posts, I finally thanked GOD that he made some people the same way as he made me...though I have been branded as "hopeless" for the way I feel for my bikes and cars.
I feel their pain, their anger and their joy. I can sense their mood with the first blip of the warm up throttle. Others who as reading this may again label me as "hopeless", but yes, I have witnessed the living soul within my bikes.
Thanks VIVIAN_C, Raccoon, rachitkohli..,Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

wow,great write-up sirji...
You really have penned the feeling of a biker and his bike.Relating things with that of Quantum physics' theory is one of the best part...
but it seems that you are a pro-writer,i mean the stuff is just so amazing...
And the moral of the story- RTR180 ad...awesome dude,i don't understand why my head never hit things like that???...once again great work Mr.Vivian..If you ride like there's no tomorrow...worry not there won't be!

Quantum mechanics/Modern physics is slowly redefining the concept of life itself.
Everything lives ,awareness permeates even rocks and pebbles as it was .
You will get abundant references you will find in the scriptures - various spiritual traditions about the sacredness that permeates everything.
.
I think, only Physics has the necessity to 'define' & 'redefine'. Our forefathers defined it milleniums ago. Just that we had trouble accepting it for whatever reasons.
Nice approach to biking

I agree wholeheartedly.
Guess we should blame it on Descartes who made a strict distinction between matter and energy. Matter is manifested energy and Energy has the potential to become matter. E=Mc^2.Buddha on wheelz.
