  • Whether technology makes us indiscplined

We all love technology and the changes it makes in our lives and if used in the proper way yes its good, but if used in a wrong way it can cause accidents.

This is a recent incident i just came to saw, in a busy area of FC road in pune, Where there is a petrol pump just at the signal, I saw one new R15 Bike which had XBHP stickers on it and there was this guy who was in the queue to refill his tank, he was continously talking on his phone using his handsfree blue tooth dongle, where using cellphone on a petrol pump is banned as its a risk not only to the person who is using but for other people also. the petrol pump fellow also told him to put it off but that biker argued with him, and seeing the long queue the petrol pump attendant had to fill his bike and this chap drove out feeling as he had won the world,

I was wondering that we have all the pledges wrote in big and bold letters we claim we XBHPIANS are different, we are responsible but looking to this chap i didnt found he was following any of this rules not even wearing a helmet above all.

Now if we being the biggest and best bike community in india are doing such things what impact will it make to the new members joining everyday and people who has only heard of XBHP and have respect for it.

    Topic Moved and Approved.

The person in question might very well be an xBhpian, or otherwise, even. But, it is a known fact that using mobile phones in fuel bunks is a strict no-no. Some people NEVER learn.

Joining the largest motorcycle forum doesn't mean he/ she has imbibed what we want to imbibe in our members and the general public even - safe riding. And "safe riding" also means things like not talking on the mobile phone while filling fuel, and 'n' number of other such things. But, I guess, a few people just DO NOT learn.
    :)

There has to be some way to 'earn' an xbhp logo or sticker. ( Like getting to know a new member through G2Gs and rides, and then probably a senior member can give or rather confer xBhp sticker on him after a few meets.. this was actually discussed in the Hyderabad xbhp thread)

Can't stop them if they just copy off the site and print though..

I don't think ppl would put xBhp logos unless they really know what it is. They'd much rather put some generic racing sponsor name in that case.. Am I right..? Good chance that the person you talked about is a member here.

      A lil saddened.

Haha, could be! But more importantly, why no helmet!!!

The reason why mobile phones (or any other electronic appliance for that matter) are prohibited near bunks is because, any gadget, when running may cause very small sparks due to electromagnetic interference. Near a petrol pump, petrol keeps evaporating whenever its exposed to air, so there is always the vapor present in the atmosphere. Now any moron can understand what will happen if sparking takes place in such an atmosphere (with atmospheric oxygen and petrol/diesel vapor) because roughly the same thing takes place in his engine!

That's why. I guess more people don't know this. How to make this information visible to everyone?

hey guyz this guy is from bangalore and it seems that he has FZ from the DP ...that person in question is from pune and he has blue R15..

using cell phone near a fuel bunk is a stict no-no as aryan said....but u cant expect a person to be well mannered just by seeing a XBHP logo on his bike....there prolly n no of members on this site...every one puts a XBHP logo on his bike probably because he wanted to be identified as an XBHP member... you are comparing XBHP LOGO with some kind of medal of honour..if iits is then as TNT said he should earn that logo..but thats impossible...
we can learn a lot of things here ...but thinking that every member of XBHP is well mannered, responsible and law abiding rider is a mistake..
every crook can join XBHP and boast around! and there goes down the fame of XBHP...
              it depends on the person...

Well, why this thread has been named like that? Where did technology played a part in making us indisciplined?

Anyways, it was a bad thing what the guy did. It is bad to see how people don't respect few basic rules around. Now, I don't believe that mobiles can cause fire at a Petrol Bunk. But, still it is better to stick to rules. You can talk later too. Why you have to do that on the petrol bunk.

Having a xBhp Logo on tank doesnt make u a sane rider. Now whomsoever this person was, must be seriously having some attitude in him as even after the pump operator told him to shut off his mobile he didnt. And yes here it goes - technology is fatal when used in a wrong or bad way. The bluetooth operator was just a click away from loosing his tooth and his ears... well Thank God that it didnt happen.
But see we all know people who ride there bikes with ipods, bluetooth handsfree and etc etc but it doesnt make one feel bad. These responsible riders wont enter the pump if they are having a conversation on there cell phones. And i think by opening this thread about him we are giving that person too much importance and unwanted attention may be which he is looking for.

So basically its the individual it matters. Some people have ego, attitude, and no common sense as a thick mixture running in there body engine. And hence they puff out even when the most polite words are used to make them stop doing something. The only thing is that we should try to make these people understand but again that would happen only if the culprit admits that "hey guys i am sorry it was me on the pump" but I doubt that his engine gonna misfire.
Its sad that due to few guys the community gets a bad name. Its really saddening. IMO I think the xBhp stickers should be with the mods. and whenever a new member comes in one should give him some time lets say 6months to see his online and offline activities (like probation period) and ifhe/she is behaving all well then the stickers should be given to him as a token of honour.

IT can & it does.I have a video of a shell bunk entirely erupting on acoount of this.Used to show to our new joinee engineers as our primary clients are oil companies.
will upload on finding it again.

as for the visibility part...aren't big stickers on the canopy/dispensers enough to say that donot use mobile phones..it's also a compulsion on the retail outlet owner/dealer/operator to put out this warnings as part of audit guidelines...

Yes that person was/is a moron and will remain so probably till something actually happens...

IMHO...Xbhp alone cannot bring about a change in someone's perpective ,there has to be one's own wish to change too...& this applies to anything else in life as well ,not just motorcycling.

The bunk going up in flames is mostly due to spark due to static charge. It is debatable and there is no credible proof that mobiles can do that. There was an experiment conducted and nothing happened. This should help out a bit: .

Anyways, I'll subside myself from this debate. And it definitely doesn't mean we should keep on talking on mobiles everywhere.

Absolutely correct....the debate is not whether it will go up or not...
only that it should be compulsorily avoided...

btw a brief description of tht video as m not able to find it:
a lorry drives in a bunk...usually it has 3-4 diff. compartments for diff products..
one intelligent guy climbs up to check and opens the hatch
as he is unable to see anything ,he take out his mobile to have a better look in that light...
as during the transportation the product is churned so much that there are bound to be vapors
as he looks down with the mobile in hand..BOOM...the entire outlet erupts...
this was caught by one of the cctv cameras mounted high on the sales building side...
