Now we are suffering from the problem of air pollution and i am sure that the time comes when we are suffering from the problem of noise pollution.May we start some rallies to spread awareness.........or something else.Xbhp always says that always wear a helmet and use less horns,so guys its my humble request to avoid unnecessary use of horns.I think i have heard somewhere that there already exists a day when honking is not allowed to avoid noise pollution.anyone else heard this????????

Horns are OK (it's about using them appropirately), but I hate twin horns it's very loud and irritating...we should learn to use more of brakes and clutch and limit 'that' right hand thumb press!!

Most irritating sound on earth is the reverse horn on cars, I think they should be banned or their decibel be fixed which should be soft and audible for say 3 mts....not more than that...

Loud horns are a boon in the hills and highways. While taking corners, it is a basic riding know-how that you have to use the horn. BUT there is a difference between loud horns ad blaring "sirens"!

Nonetheless, it is meer stupidity to justify that usage of horns is not required. Horns should be used, but where required, just to put the message through, not to shatter ear drums

Why so hate about horns? I agree some people use them in idiotic ways, but I personally like them. My friend got in an accident just because the taxi he was overtaking from the right side didn't notice him. How else are we two wheelers are to be notified to dreamy cage drivers, with windows up and songs playing at high noise? I'd rather disturb his ear than to be a next casuality.

I know, this sounds like 'Indians are most impolite blah blah', but so be it. Being a smallest vehicle, it gives me right to save my skin by whatever way possible. Go teach the cagers some driving first, and then if they learn responsible driving, I will put my hand away from the horn.

That said, I never use horn in residential areas, and never ever for a pedestrian, even a jaywalking one. I believe in residential areas, the road belongs to the pedestrians, so I patiently go around them But on highways with monkeys behind wheels, I am usually like a scout master with a brand new whistle

And a little brand endorsing: GS has such a loud yet unharsh horn, I love it. In fact, I call her my Lata Mangeshkar, once she starts to sing, everyone stops in the tracks!

The problem is not of a loud or weak horn. The only thing I would say is that people should learn to use the horn judiciously.

One thing that I would like to add here.........

Somebody here mentioned that loud horns are useful against small animals to which I disagree cos I have noticed that many a times these horns stun these animals like goats, poultry, puppies etc and even sometimes stuns cows, buffalos and even little kids and older women. Now stunning them might not be the best thing with these type of "subjects" as usually this can lead to you crashing into them or running over them. I personally had such a experience once when I was riding my p150 ug-2 and ran over a stunned goat. (Luckily neither me nor the goat I ran over were hurt and I double checked that!)

So remember when facing animals use of a horn might not be the best thing to do and also it is a criminal offence in most of states of India to leave older women and kids as road kill! Trust me I have tried and it was not that successful as I am posting from a jail!
                  When in doubt...... Gas it!

What about the 4 wheelers honking away to glory sitting cozily inside their ac cooled cabins with absolute disregard for a hapless 2 wheeler in front of him, almost as if the son of a gun owns the road and his blaring horn would make the scoooter/bike/rickshawfellow fly out of his way... in my 1 year of stay in Canada i only seldom heard someone honking ... nd if even if someone did honk it was out of urgency AND not sadistic pleasure to make one's presence felt on the road
The similarity between air traffic controllers and pilots?
If a pilot fuks it up, the pilot dies.
If ATC fuks it up, the pilot dies. :D

You all are talking about loud horns. but one thing i have notice in Mumbai that some people also honk when they are behind a bus and the bus halts at the bus stop these people start honk like mad. now for that purpose i dont say you are at fault for putting loud horns.
but that is purely an irresponsible citizen who dont care about civic sense and road manners.

I like to irritate some people by Horning.. Like If I see someone who is talking on the phone while riding a bike even though there is sufficient space for me to pass , or If two bikes are going parallel and riders are talking to each other .. In some cases when someone is breaking the rule and causing the inconvenience.

the one who said "horns should not be used at all" ,lemm tell one things to u,dont use horn, the next day u'll find yourself in hospital..c'mon man..for what tpurpose the horns are built? do u think they are kinda music instruments? ur city people might have traffic sense..but here i want to blow the hell out of their ears..what the f$%^ the man strolls on road without seeing whats coming,he doesn't even bother, but when accident occurs he and the local waleh storm the biker, who is not at fault at all,i have seen 'n' no of people being caught in such melodrama,oh ya i have choosen words,i would rather blow the hell out of their eardrums than taking the blame for other's mistakes.
being said that, horns should not be used in the residential areas, near hospitals..it should be used in a town like the where i live, and on highways.
i see no harm in using loud horns, atleast it can be used to tell these f%^$$ mindless people that road belongs to the vehicles.

calm down ceaser!!,To use horns is not a bad thing as you told, but to misuse it is a problem?
misusing doesnot means honking the horn for a long time becuz in every pther place people are having different level of tolerances and frequency of hearing, but if someone honks the horn unnecessarily just for scaring away girls,on vacant roads thenit counts in oversmartness and stupidity
