  • My Green-Mean P180!

This mod is a result of my quest for better lighting for my Pulsar 180 UGIII.

iGot a little carried away... but I'm pretty satisfied with the result.

Let me know what you guys think.

    DISCLAIMER:
    - I'm aware that the Bajaj Pulsar is air cooled.
    - I don't usually ride more than 35kms at a stretch (No long rides)
    - I've carried out this mod keeping a possible drop in performance due to heating issues.
    - The fairing on the bike has actually increased top-end. (True story)

I've had my P18OUGIII since December 2006. It's been kept stock besides the Pirelli MATCH-08 at the rear wheel.

So I decided I'd put on an R15 fairing. I bought the parts over a period of 2-3 months

coz the Yamaha Spares Shop didn't always have all the parts i wanted.

So once I had collected everything I needed... I got down to the mod.

I wanted the mod to last... without any rattling or vibration down the line...

so I used only OEM Yamaha hex key nuts, bolts, grommets, collars, clips etc.

Those were some of the expensive bits.

The actual mod took just 3days of 10am-7pm shifts. Hired a welder for 4 days.

Told him I want high quality, durable arc welds. That was pretty much the only labour cost involved.

Then tied the R15 fairing together with nylon packing string and aligned it to the bike. 5 brackets were all that was required.

The front fairing has been aligned a little lower and more towards the front when compared to an R15.

It makes the bike look longer, heaver and bigger... in a way.

Keeping in mind servicing the bike etc... I wanted the plastic panels to come off just like on a stock R15.

    The brackets were made accordingly.

I've painted it Kawasaki Green... the colour is a virtual match.

My initial plan was to have a Don Emde 'Rossi themed R1' paintjob on the bike...

but i'm still working on the stencils... so will probably do it after the monsoon.

Sorry about the cellphone pics. My SLR's konked off. Hope to get a new one soon.

These pics don't show how awesome the Kwacker Green paintjob has turned out.

This is more or less the most recent pic of my bike.

And these were taken just after the paintjob.

The handle's been painted black now.

    -------------------------------------------------
EDIT: thanks for the replies guys.

i accquired the parts over a period of time...
i didn't keep tabs on how much i spent.

i bought used parts for the fairing and headlight assembly.
because i didn't want any scratches on the plastic parts while i was adjusting/aligning everything.

once the brackets and welds were complete...
i bought new fairing parts and a new headlight assembly.

all the R15 fairing parts cost about 4500 i think...
the headlight assembly costs around 2200...
the OEM nut n bolts, collars, grommets, hex bolts, thread clips etc.
cost more than 5 grand or so.

    the handle cost Rs. 350..
but i replaced the hollow bars with solid iron bars...
coz the hollow bars on aftermarket handle bars bend/break really easily.
i din't want to take any risks.
so i bought a long iron rod...
ground it down to match the diameter... go it cut to proper length.
made the corresponding holes/threads and put it on. upside down.

so the handle mod cost about 1300 bucks.

i changed the wiring harness, all switches, the seat, new tyres,
had to put on the P2OO rear-sets.
a minor mod to the angle of the exhaust pipe was required to accommodate the rear-sets.

i haven't really completed the rest of the stuff i had in mind.
    including a new paintjob.

waiting for the rains to stop.

Not bad at all, I must say. Definitely way better than other 'cheap looking' mod-jobs out there.

I am not the one who likes cosmetic mods, but I must say, your has been a wonderful work. And I see its a clean job, not just the regular screw, feviqwik, araldite, Fevicol, scotch tape, coir rope, shoe string, payjama's nada job.

and I appreciate your prudence in telling that you wanted to be different and also that you are ware of the air cooled engine theory.

              No worries, Let it go.

              My compliments

              All Cheers

Xionite, neat job, a decent match of the lines of the fairing and the stock bike, wish the tank looked sharper though. Kawasaki decal only one side or both? STock exhaust?

the decals are on both sides.. those are pics before the decals were put on.

won't be keeping the stock exhaust... meaning... still working on a FZ16 kind of sleeve for the pulsar exhaust... will post pics when done.

i haven't added up the total cost of what I've spent yet... but spares cost somewhere about 18,000+ (yamaha spares, fairing, nuts n bolts, grommets n collars, metal brackets, handlebar etc) ... painting cost is zero (did it myself)... labour is 3 grand for 5 days of the welder's time.

but i've changed all the electrical stuff... wiring, switches etc.
