That said, the simplest thing is to buy a bicycle and use it for all activities under 5km. Everything else is mere lip service.

I would like to advice people to switch off their engines even if we are stand still for just 10s, not 30s. I feel 30s is too long a duration.

Also, when stuck in a traffic jam or very slow moving traffic, plan your way forward so that you can let the engine be switched off for as long as possible. For example, if there is a down slope(or even a flat piece of road), switch off the engine and just push the bike forward. When you move near the vehicle in front of you, slow down a little to avoid moving fast and stopping completely. More often than not, traffic starts moving just after you come to a stop!

I say the better way would be to state to people; it isin't the earth we our striving to save but our-own-selves.

think about it, earth is going to be be there whether its global warming or chilling or an asteroid ten pin bonanza. It is just we who might end up on the extinction list.

i agree and somewhat disagree on this.

- We as bikers do our bit, by taking a more fuel efficient way to work/leisure etc etc, compared to a car. Does it benefit us in anyway? the cost of fuel is same for both, a biker or a car owner.
- The number of bikes outnumber the number of 4 wheelers, but in terms of vehicle efficiency, we burn our fuel more efficiently for a given distance.

- Keeping pollution in check, yes, but remember that, when you are on a bike, and are braving the heat, the cold, the rain and the dust, you are being that much more fuel efficient than the other person sitting inside his/her car next to you. If that pleases you.

- Cycling does help, but then so does staying at home and parking your bike does too.

Im not against the environment, im all for it too, but i feel that we need a better pollution control and monitoring policy implemented for vehicles, before anything can be done. Your Local PUC wala is just gonna issue you a generic pollution certificate, and same thing you are gonna show to the cop.

Is he gonna check the pollution level?? does he have any equipment to verify it?? nope.

So the system has to come up to the mark to let these emission norms make any significant change. We are headed to BS4 now, but what about the dozens and dozens of cars that are 15 or more years old and still plying, and polluting???
