I can vouch for the mototuning bit.. I didnt know of it when my bike was new.. but as it turned out.. my friend had an accident at khandala when i had come to delhi from pune .. my bike was a week old then an a couple of my colleagues asked to borrow my bike to get the other bike back... obviously i had to give coz the victim was a good friend of mine.. as it turned out they pushed the bike all the way continuously over 100 ..
also .. it being my first bike .. i couldnt help but rev a lot and test the top speed i could go to ...all this well within the first 1000 kms ..
and i can give my bike for test riding to prove that it runs super(touche).. in fact been complimented for it from a number of guys..
just that i took the 3 free services from bajaj n since then i have only shown my bike at castrol bike zones .. initially in pune .. n now in okhla, delhi ..
Never be a part of the crowd !!!

yes the same case had happened with within a span of 1000km my bike touched 103 ..bcoz of soem extreme reasons...running ;late for the xams...i had a doubt whether such a strain on engine will effect the performance or not....

I went the motoman way 4 days after i bought my bike for a whole 500kms. My dad was hospitalised(so had no option). Trust me you dont wanna do that. The engine is screwed inside out. It has lost its smoothness. Cant rev freely above 3500rpm. Load carrying capacity has gone down cosiderably. Mileage is pathetic. SC guys say something wrong with the clutch plates and pistons. Ask me what did i do with the bike. U guys know the FZ is known for refined engine. So i dont know if its a one off case but motoman is definitely not for me...

i do like Motoman's way and had also made up my mind to follow it completely but then i followed the middle way...i took a somewhat middle path and did a combination of hard running-in and that recommended by the manufacturer...the reason why i didnt follow it completely coz i still dont trust indian manufaturers for complete peace of mind in terms of reliability

Motoman break-in was there in old xBHP.
I had a ZMA back then and I had broken in by bike using this menthod.
Had absolutely no problems, and it gave pretty good mileage as well !!

Hyosung Aquila : Because sometimes you need to look cool while riding at 40 kmph and you can do that only on a cruiser !!!

I am one of them, i did exact 40kms of runnin on my rx after that rip rippppp
i have not holed my piston till date or blown anything on my bike, and i open up my engine very frequently to see whats happenning there touch wood everythings fine.

Especially for two strokes it all depends how well your REBORE has been done, eg : right amount of rings clearance, proper reboring.

Ya man, i had followed the exact procedure. No doubt. Proper engine warming. Short bursts of acceleration and deceleration and all that.
                          Had touched 90-100 kmph.
I guess this only applies to SBK's. Just my thought.

                            Break-in period?? Buying new R15..

Well, i'm about to get a Yamaha R15 within few days now and i'm finding this engine break-in thing too much scary. I want to take utmost care of each and every thing related to my bike. I have a few questions regarding the same.
The engine break-in period, or the first few kilometers of the bike which determine the engine performance and life in future, how important is it?
Which is the best method to do the first 500 odd kilometers?
I'm really scared and confused because i dont want to end up messing up and i want a butter smooth engine in future..
I've tried searching for this on the internet and it looks like there are various methods to do it. So, basically what is ideal method?
Many have also criticized the method mentioned in user manual. What to do and how? Kindly all experienced people..share some knowledge..

The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

First of all, there is nothing to be scared. The R15 engine is very good&no one has had issues with it even after heavy ripping during running in. You could have posted this in the R15 thread itself. Anyways, there are various kinds of run-ins, some soft&the others aggressive. Both have their own plus&minus points. If reading from the internet, do not try to emulate methods mentioned for bigger bikes, their engines are different from our bikes'.
I for one follow the manual method. This is what I did:
For 1st 750kms.All gear changes at 3500-4000 RPM. Top gear speed upto 60kmph, which translates to 4K RPM again.
Next 750kms.same RPM gear shifts, took her gradually upto 7K RPM (100kmph) in top gear.
I will not claim anything, it is just the method I liked to follow for my bike. Others have done harsh running in&they feel their bike runs smoothly too.
I say read the manual, talk to some other R15 owners&take your pick!
                                Quench my thirst with gasoline!
