Thanks for a trip to Japan for free Rahul, as you are showing things which I would like to see
You're welcome, I wanted to do this myself. Thanks to a rainy day, I sat at home and posted these pictures.

Japan also gets hot during summers, but more than the weather, what makes commuting by cycle possible is infrastructure and road sense. In India, the only proper city you have dedicated cycle lanes is Chandigarh - you can safely ride a cycle there.

Not so anywhere else in India. I once cycled to work in Bangalore, and it put the fear of god in me. People have scant respect for any vehicle on the roads, leave along cyclists - I would never venture out on the roads on a cycle again!

50-125cc is the bread earner for most motorcycle manufacturers! It is not surprising that this is what you get to see most.
Thanks Ken! Will update with more over the next few days...

Superb thread. Loved those big muscular scooters with huge end can's.

So funny to see sportsbikes like the Ninja & honda used as a delivery bike (maybe time is of the essence in Japan )

Lovely pics Rahul. Keep 'em coming.

how about posting pics of japs riding bikes like the busa ,mt01 intruder,v max(hyperbikes) ,i heard they keep away from heavy bikes due to the heavy weight nature and them suited to bulky americans

I see big bikes every now and then, but in Japan, people place practicality over a lot of things, so there. I'll take pictures when I see them, but most of those bikes people on xbhp have already seen or heard of, so I'll keep those pics to a minimum.

And there is a different class of license for bikes above 400cc, so that's another reason why Japanese riders stay away from bigger bikes. Heck, on certain streets in Tokyo, 'big' bikes are banned.

                  That's a good regulation.

But are those 400CC & litre class motorcycles affordable? It should be right? I once heared from my friend that parking costs like hell. Or is it like only certain parts of the city? Is that true?

Really nice pictures there Bluevolt. Kinda gives everyone a feel for the roads in Japan.

The store must have been drool maal. I was salivating when I went to one of the bike stores in the US and NAPS seems to be so much more! Have fun and enjoy your vacation.

Pretty affordable - 2nd hand 400 ccs can be had for USD 2500 or less. New prices are similar to US pricing, so 1 litre bikes are $10,000 or less.

Parking is not so expensive, except in certain parts.

Thanks Sidhu! The difference between this NAPS store and the US stores was that though US stores are big in area, they don't have much variety (though online is different). Here the stores are big and the aisles are narrow and wall space is cleverly utilized to fit in as much stuff as possible. And there are a lot of Japanese brands selling novelty gear and accessories, things I would never find in the US.

Like I saw Goretex waterproof Denims with armor (kinda dragging jeans, but waterproof); and also a thick belt with handles on the side - this belt is worn by the rider so that pillion can grab the handles instead of awkwardly clasping the tank or the tails. Gives a whole new meaning to love handles! I have never seen things like this in the US - even in chain stores like cyclegear or motorcycle malls.

Some more - it is raining here so it is difficult to spot bikes on the road!

CB1300 - Semi faired. I personally like the non-faired version though.

                        A 250cc trailie - didn't catch the name:

                        A few more big scooters:

One of the Yamaha dealers/workshops I visited - sorry guys, it ain't full of R1's and R6's!

Whats the scene like for two-stroke spares, after-markets, etc?

Yet to see a CBX1000 - should be rare to come across one though.

Depends - if you are talking about RX100/135/350, you'd draw a blank, but models like Honda NSR, then yes, there are shops which might stock spares. (not OEM, but replacement parts made by other independent companies)
