  • How to ride Bullet in heavy Traffic?

    Hello Friends,

Perusing my long term dream, I bought a 88 Bullet a few weeks back. I had Gladiator and Pulsar before. I need your suggestion on what is the best way to drive this beast in heavy traffic? Usually it takes me 40 mins to cover a 12 KM stretch to my office, with a number of stops. I have noticed that the bike becomes really hot. On my previous bikes I used to ride on low RPMs. Will this help on Bullet? Thanks in advance for your help!

You dont need to rev a bullet to get going. Especially since you said its a 80s model - it will be a CI engined torquey bike which can get along at very low speeds and low RPM. Having said that, dont be so low in the rev range and speeds such that you have to use the clutch too often.

You need to be a little careful with the clutch. You need to learn how to shift into and out of neutral quickly and also use the neutral finder to good effect. While you are learning all this,(I presume its got to have RHS gear shift to add to the learning curve ) you better stick to the slow lane on the left.

Lastly but very importantly ... make sure you are very comfy with switching off the vehicle at signal points and getting it started - decompressor + hiss sound + kick - if you master these things, the bullet is not difficult to ride in heavy traffic.

a brand new one is different from what the thread starter has asked,
a new one is like most other bikes.

congrats dessfox for owning a legend as said by sandeep try master those start stop techniques a;so being 80's model bull it will be a heavy crank if i 'm not wrong its said in those machines the torque distribution is so good that the engine pulls smoothly at 20kmph speeds with the top gear engaged even without any knocking from the engine congrats ya happy thumping

Yuss it got to be a heavy crank. 40kph in top gear without jerking. It feels almost unreal in the beginning but you get used to it

              @sheel

New one ought to feel more natural with the LHS gearshift and more "semblance" to "modern" bikes .

Need to keep an eye on oil levels throughout the trip and ensure the engine ain't getting too hot.

I think engineers at RE should design a water jacket to the engine to keep it away from getting heated

Any idea what speeds would I be sticking to so that I reach home w/o much hullabaloo, hope it won't be 60KMPH(pun intended), there is no rev gauge too else I would be just sticking to the half mark.

sheel had it undergone 3 services you cruise steadily on 80-85kmph the speed on which your bull ll make you feel better if its below that read the running in rules for bull and abide to them

hey i dunno about the bullet 350 but i have ridden my friend's classic 500 in all conditions(it's amazing)
you only got to be careful about its weight
don't lean a lot nor try to simply cut through traffic as much as you must have done in your pulsar(i own one and bullet really isn't as good as it for such stuff)
and old bullets aren't too comfy while starting them so till the time you gain expertise in kicking it to life don't switch it off in signals
and truly speaking bullet mein it is not a real problem about which RPM you are

Hmmm and to help matters it doesn't show rpm, hope I don't over rev it(as I am really used to revs & peaky Motorcycles)

Thank you all for your help! Yes, the bike has right hand gear, still getting used to it. I bought a second had one and got it overhauled, I liked the old model more than the new UCE engine (my personal opinion). Will try to master the techniques you have suggested. Thanks once again!

Thanks for your wishes! I felt the same when I started riding the bike, but its becoming much easier as I get hold of it and by following the suggestions others have given in this thread. The fact that the bike can go at low speeds in top gear is a major boost in traffic, on my old bikes I had to regularly change gears.

Yes, I am more of a cruiser so it would suit me just fine, as it is there are not many highways/roads around here where I can do 80+ for long intervals

Since it is right out of a overhaul right now, no oil spills, but I know sooner or later there would be some, I have heard you cant avoid them in the old bullets
