Yahoo maps which I have is around 300MB for South India and the level of zoom is not full but sufficient for needs. Yes and the detailing is too good. Where as the yahoo maps online isn't user friendly as google maps
Oh ok.. I'll search for the OVI.sis application.
300 mb for offline yahoo maps, hmmm it must be detailed enough for sure. Gmaps is definitely much friendly too use, if only we could use it offline

Either you go by the method which junta uses (Garmin) or buy Satguide if you can afford it (990 only).

Best benefit of all of this, is to preload your waypoints with GPS coordinates from wikipedia et al, and follow the route perfectly.

Garmin route is MAX 100mb for all india map, and within 20-25 MB if you customize smaller routes using Mapsource

Yes dude, Garmin certainly looks way too popular but I'v no experience related to Garmin use so I'll google out for details. Someone suggested me for that Satguide for Rs 990 & it is certainly affordable if it is worth it but I need to know where i can get it from dude.

Its easy to use them. I use it on my Nokia N85 8Gb which has got A-Gps.
          It works pretty good.
You just need to open GPS. And then open the slider as the GPS receiver is below the keypad so it should be without any obstacle. And then in option check for satellite status. If it got full signal then it will show your location. You can go to other options to record distance and trip. It works as trip meter also. And you can also get max speed and average speed there.

You can use Sygic MapMyIndia for Symbian on all nokia touch GPS phones.+ there is a .sis for no touch too(Also available for iPhone , Android and Windows Mobile). Yes you can even use it offline. Its 150 odd MB well spent in the Memory card . I cant post the link here due to piracy issues but you can always google it, its not that hard to find. Legally, it can be bought from Buy MapmyIndia mobile phone GPS : Android, Windows Mobile, Symbian, iPhone and Blackberry GPS phone navigation software with all India maps and it is the most comprehensive + user friendly India maps you will ever find. If you love touring, it is The Best 2k you will ever spend .

                  satguide

I am currently using satguide on N82. It can be downloaded from the internet through their website, the reason i use the same over others is because of voice navigation assistance.

Hi even i have n82 and am using Garmin mobile xt full version. Its an amazing software with voice guidance.240mb is the total file size which includes full Asia map. The best part is that it is an offline map. Thanks for the input never heard about satguide, hope its a free service. Will definatly try that one. Though Garmin is one of the best in business, i would like to have as much navigation software as i can. Even you can try E.T. Other than xt and et am using gmap and ovi map in my n82.

what no one has mentioned is that you need to have a integrated gps receiver in your phone, in addition to a-gps. Integrated gps takes the position fix directly from the satellites, while a-gps triangulates it on the basis of cellular towers and their locations.

A-gps would also require gprs/wap or some other connection.

in the absence of a mobile network, integrated gps is your best bet.

Suggestion, buy a S605th edition phone ( Cheapest with integrated that i can remember is the C5 at this point of time, 7.2k or so new. ). Install the complete india map ( OVI suite download, like the issues you are facing, but should not be the same with aS60 5th edition ). And you should be good to go.
