  • Help needed with my Pulsar150(UG2) 2005 model

    Hi Guys,

Am new to xbhp, but have been reading lot of your threads. Its awesome and keep it up guys.

I have a black pulsar 150(UG2) 2005 model. Its gone down...gone down badly. I need power and torque in it. I tried K&N air filter and also changed the jet. Things dint work out. I couldnt feel the power. A day will come when a Luna will overtake me...ill like to get buried with my bike before that happens.

Really need you help guys...waiting for your opinions.

    Thanks,
    lime'n'ice

do you guys need more power out of your bikes or is it you want them to be in their stock condition?

my bike has covered 28500kms till date and i do the servicing from an authorized
service center every time. i've been taking a lot care of my bike, never skipped any service...i'm the only person who rides my bike and no1 else.. the real problem is bike has become powerless ,engine knocks like hell...sometimes i feel that i'm riding a 90cc moped or something...need to change gears every so often(city)..it's totally powerless... mileage has gone down by 25kms(now it gives 28km/pl)..tuned carb. to optimum setup..done tappet settings, tyre air pressure is proper, put new castrol power1 oil..changed spark plugs...both the wheels are lubricated and runs perfectly fine..drive chain is lubricated...no black/white smoke is coming out of silencer so don't think there's something wrong with the piston/rings or cylinder block. will changing clutch assembly give me satisfactory results???or i'll have to sell out this bike???? i'm fade up now.......

yes i want my bike to give more power and speed

change the clutch plates ,as for the knocking check whether the right side spark plug is firing ,it could be the culprit, i too had knocking problem some time back due to lack of spark on the rhs spark plug ,if it is not firing check whether it is the fault of the spark plug cap or the cdi or the ht coil

Firstly, getting your bike serviced at the authorized service centre is not the best thing for your bike. Once you're beyond the warranty period and you've used that to your advantage, it's best that you seek out a good trust-worthy mechanic.

Most SVC guys have no idea what they're doing and they just tell you that they've adjusted the valve clearance, timing, tappet etc... but they just change the oil and wash the bike, then it's ready for delivery...

If you have a good mechanic, check whether the sound you're referring to is really a case of engine knock, I don't think that engine knock occurs when there are no problems with the piston rings... Ask fellow Xbhpians around your area for recommendations regarding good mechanics.

The clutch plate has an acceptable life of 20000 - 25000 kms, so a change is due in that case.

My bike just hit the 40000 km mark, same model as your's, the engine performs as good as new . Though there are certain sounds I'd like to disappear....

Finally and most importantly, if you did not run-in your bike properly at the beginning, then don't expect anything short of total replacement to fix the junk you're in.

as said above it is good to check your bike with the help of good mech. First check clutch plates condition mostly they might be aged as you have clocked 28K kms. Most of SVC guys dont have basic knowledge of bikes they operate on. I gave my bike for servicing and these monkeys tuned it in such a bad way that i felt huge vibs even at 50 kmph. I did carb tune by my self and its smooth as before . Dont always trust them blindly starting cross questioning them when ever possible after all we are paying them .

@limenice: Firstly Power1 is not suited for P150(Even though its a major misconception). The manufacturer's recommend 20W40 for P150 ,which Power1 is not.Try out Castrol Activ 4t.Also replace your air filter with a stock one.Try to find a good mech(a person who at least knows 50% of what he is doing) at the service center where you service your bike.Establish a good rapport with him and see the difference he makes to your bike the next time u give it for service(tried and tested by me).By the way where are u from?

The rating for P150 is 20W50 and so far I've found only Valvoline 4TPremium semi synthetic oil of that rating. Use that. And since the warranty period has finished no use going to the service centre. Those idiots get almost 40 bikes a day..do you really think they may be attending to each bike properly?

Get all the required parts changed [ esp. clutch plates]. For the list of parts to be changed refer to the owners manual. It has the detailed list according to no of kms covered.

sorry that i am using this threa for my problem as i have seen discussions of pulsars going on so thought to post my problem here itself..

my pulsar is 2006 model. 33k km done.
i have changed my clutch plates along with the entire set where they are fixed just 3 weeks back.i even changed the timing chain.
the problem i am facing is
1)slight rattling sound is coming..same as the one for which i have changed the timing chain
                              2) i still feel that my bike lacks pickup and speed even after the change of the plates
                              3) bike giving vibration just after crossing 60 kmph mark
4)once i reach 80 nd try to go beyond it i feel like i have been putting pressure on my engine...the sound that come is so...
5)sometimes i do smell of something burning after running a long distance.

looking forward for some help and suggestions from you guys..
