  • ZMA coughs in his 1st ride in the day

In the first start of the day while riding or starting the engine by kick, when the choke is on it runs smoothly, but whenever I throttle manually the bike coughs as it is unable to rev properly but after some time the bike becomes fine this is happening only during the first ride in the day or after a long parking whther be it in main stand or side stand. Can anyone give me some light on it please??

AFAIK thats normal for most of the carburettor bikes. There is certain procedure which is to be followed while starting your bike for the first time in the day. It has something to do with pressing the clutch and kicking. Cant really recollect, will search some forums and let you know.

i think its called cold start. what i do is keep the ignition off, clutch dabao aur kick maaro 8-10 times. again turn the ignition on & kick start the bike.no need to use choke, no problem in my zma atleast till now. no cough cough........

the problem is lean mixture..it goes away when the engine warms up..the mechs must have leaned the mixture so as to get more mileage..refer to your manual, you will get the perfect screw turns..if you adjust it correctly, the problem will go away..also reposition any cloth under the seat that might be blocking the air intake vent..

when the engine is heated up well, TURN the mixture screw by half turn. [call ur mechanic if you arent confident to do so]

else follow this method for starting -

open half choke + open slight throttle + press starter = engine fires up instantly without a issue.
