    MY Wind 125

    Hi XBHpians,

    This is my first post.

    I will come straight to the point.

    I have a kawasaki bajaj wind 125. its 7 years old. Kms on it is 18000+.


    The problem are:

    1.the average is not good(45kmpl)

    2. Pick up is good on some days ....

    3. engine is heating too much.

    4.My mechanic says the suspension is good but i can feel every bump on the road.

    These are the major issues.

    I want to get rid of these problems.

    Please tell me how to improve the performance of my bike .

    Should i go for a new engine oil, new air filters, etc etc...

        Surely, your engine is demanding a good oil change,......in between, which oil you are using now.My suggestion is to go for authorised service center, tell their probs to manager their, they will sort it out
        Down the GEAR and DISAPPEAR

          You might want to change the Front Fork Oil.

            Dude, Just decarborize your bike. It'll do wonders and do it in an authorized service station. Before going in for that ask the opinion from the mechanic who works there, they know it well whether to go in for decarb or to change piston rings and all since your bike is 7 years old even that might be needed. While doing it they'll change the air filter, spark plugs, engine oil and all, if they dont insist on replacing them.
            You've got a nice bike, I like the smoothness of the engine a lot. Good Luck!

              From my experience with 4 different bajaj service centres I can say that they don't do their job right. They treat old and small vehicle owners very badly and the bills too are huge with not even half the problems solved. I suggest you get all the parts listed in the manual changed asap. Switch to a better engine oil, change fork oil as Guru pointed out, spark plugs, chain+sprockets, air filter, etc. Else get a full engine overhaul done.

                Thanks a lot for the ideas

                But... do i have to change all of the stuff mentioned above coz...my running is only 18,000 kilometers.

                People don't change even if they have clocked in more than 30k kilometers.


                Also please can someone give me an estimate so that i don't pay some exorbitant amount to the mechanic.

                Btw which spark plugs to put? iridium?

                Is shell good or Motul? or should i stick with castrol ?

                Etc... etc...

                    I am ex owner of Kawasaki Bajaj Caliber 115 (bought 6 days before launch of Wind) Even I was having similar problems when I sold it last year.

                    There is a difference between 'What People Do' and 'What is recommended'.

                    You are required to change the oil every 2.5k km / 3 months.

                    Replace Spark plug every 10k km, use industry standard Bosch spark plugs, no need to spend extra unnecessarily.

                    Air filter (10k), oil filter(10k), fork oil seal(10k), cylinder head seal(15k) all need to get changed.

                    Chain + Sprocket sets last around 20k km if taken care properly.

                    Fork oil change will be required.

                    Motul is overkill for this vehicle, stick to Mak (Bharat Petroleum) 20w40. If possible try Petronas Semi Syntheric 20w40 (costs 330 odd/litre) and the drain interval for SS is double of mineral. If using Shell, buy Shell Advance and never Shell Helix.

                    As somebody suggested, decarborising the engine can do wonders. Changing piston rings will only be required if the initial Running-in was not done properly.

                    Doing all this should not cost you more than 1500-2000 though.

                        HI Guys,

                        I had gone to mechanic last week.

                        He took a test ride and said the engine overheates due to damage to the clutch plates.

                        He opened the bike and the made me replace the clutch plates as they were burnt.The pressure plates were slightly black.

                        I did not give a second thought coz i was changing the clutch and pressure plates for the first time in 7 years.

                        total cost of parts + labour was 600 (300 CP+200 PP+ 100 labour).

                        He changed the oil filter (50) and air filter(50).

                        He only had Motul as engine oil. so he put that .

                        the cost of oil was 224 rs ( not synthetic). Also my bike requires 1.1 litre of oil.
                        He said "100 ml se kuch pharak nahi padta". I hope hes right.

                        Now after riding for 2 weeks , these are my observations:

                        pikup is better.

                        Average i feel has reduced even more.

                        Gears slip while changing.

                        He said that bring the bvike fr a service and i will do the front fork oil change.

                        Decarb of my bike is not necessary according to him as it is a 4 stroke.

                        This mechanic is in borivali (w) and shops name is SNIPER automobiles.

                          I would say '100ml se farak padta hai'. Use any mineral oil from HPCL / BPCL and add 100 ml. But I am not so sure that it would require 1.1 litres of engine oil.. Because, my Caliber 115 required only 1 litre.. and for comparison... my P220 requires 1150ml (the extra 150 ml is because of the external oil cooler). So please check if your bike requires 1 litre or 1.1 litres before you top up the oil.

                          The oil you used was Motul 3000 mineral oil so the old recommended drain interval will still apply.

                          I would advice you to put a query on Mumbai G2G thread for a good mechanic. That will help you more than posting on this thread.

                              Means if you would have used Semi Synthetic oil, oil change interval would have changed to 5k km / 6 months. But because you used mineral oil, the interval does not change and remains 2.5k km / 3 months.
