  • Raising Handle bar height in R15

    Hi All,

The riding position in R15 is sporty(indeed it is a sports bike ) & it is not comfortable for long drives. Is there a way to raise the handle bar height & make the seating position comfortable. If anybody have done that modification kindly post the pictures.

    Regards,
    Ashwhin.

you can machine risers to raise the handlebar height and drop the front fork height. should give you about 1-1.5 inches of increment.

you will need longer bolts to mount the handlebars to the top plate, through the risers.

Yamaha should bring in "risers" as an option with longer cables (if required). This will defenitely widen the market for the R15, i was looking for something like this for so long. such a move will invite old people like me to buy a R15 ....WHAT SAY ??

aray bhai what you say in here the answer is there itself R15 is derived from the R1 indeed a sports bike used on track(racing instinct)so its is got to have that sitting position how is that possible to raise the handle bar and change the sitting position you will land up some where else do not try anything and spoil the bike, any way how long is your drive i mean continously how long do you ride.
And till now i havent seen any guys doing this to their bike, better ride some other bike instead of R15 you will get a good riding position like unicorn, splendor, galdi communicator bike

just google for "risers for ninja 250 or something ). You will see a plate like thing, which gets installed between the clip on and the top plate of the handle T.

So what happens is, you push the forks higher into the handle bar top plate ( effectively dropping the front height ). The front height can only be dropped till slightly below the bottoming out level of the front fork.

Suppose your front suspension travel is 4 inches, and you have 7 inches of front fork length below the handle t. ( Between the handle T base and the outer tube ). So 4 inches of travel, and 3 inches of length of fork that can be used.

Depending on how much gap you got, you can push the forks higher up in the handle T, and mount the clip ons at a higher position than before.

To take up the space, you put in a riser ( or that metal piece) which takes up the gap between the clip on and the handlebar top plate.

To a rider, he does hunch forward more ( due to the reduced height of the front fork length below the handle T ), But the handle bars to him are at a higher elevation, and more reachable, making it easier to ride.

                Hope this helps explain better.

its possible to raise the handle bars but you also need to adjust the length of your throttle cable acoordingly....make sure that you choose the best mechanic to do this job....

Yes, I have seen several bikes (Pulsar, CBZ with custom handlebars) in my area with this arrangement, and increased handle-bar height.

But won't it disturb the rake angle?

I don't think the angle's gonna change. The handlebar raiser would be installed in the place that is marked "Laser" in your picture. Any part added would be above it in the same angle.

^^ well actually the handlebar risers will be mounted on the forks, so thats a little ahead of the point marked laser.

Not it will not change the rake angle, it will change the horizontal profile of the bike like i said, it will lean more forward.
